My mickey dog

Guys- I just found out my dog is being put down today. She had a stroke last night- and she cant even get up and walk a few feet. She was perfectly fine yesterday.. I dont understand these things. I am hoping I can get there before they take her to the vet. St Mary's wont come to the house.

damnit this is so hard. I want to say goodbye to her- but I just- god. this sucks. DAMNIT!!

Does it hurt when she is put to sleep? Will she be in pain? I know nothing about this!

Sweetie I am so sorry. That's tough. And no...she won't be in any pain. She'll just close her eyes and go to sleep. You can stay with her through the whole thing. :huggy:

They will give her a sedative first, WC... she will not be in pain when she passes on.

:huggy: Sorry to hear this news WC. As far as I know, your dog will just go to sleep, no pain. If you can be with her, do it. Pet her and talk softly to her. It has to be a hard time! :huggy:

I wish I could go. My dad is going to take her over- and we are going to wait at the house.

This is so hard. So she wont be pain?

I am just afraid. I dont want her to be. And I know she knows we are just trying to help her. I just, bah! They said she had about 1-2 years left- and that she was nice and healthy. She was outside playing yesterday-..
I just...dont know.

When I got it down last year, Missy just closed her eyes and took a nap. They let you stay in the room with her until you are ready to leave.

I'm so sorry, WC. :huggy: When our Boston Terrier, Bogie, was put to sleep it was very peaceful. I held him in my arms like a cradled baby, and they gave him a shot in his arm. He went to sleep, and that was that. We were able to be alone with him in the room for a while, and when we were ready the vet took him from my arms.

I am so sorry for the loss of our babe. No there will be no pain. The serum they use is a overdose of barbituates, she will close her eyes and go to sleep after seeing some colors for a moment. It is a very peaceful thing.

In my mind, I had already sold a car, cancelled a vacation, taken out a loan and borrowed from friends and planned out various scenarios based on all possible outcomes. We do what has to be done with our loved ones, our family. I was able to get them home, but the point was - or is - is that this decision wouldn't be a difficult one if it weren't for the deep love you feel for your family member.

I am SO very sorry, I can't even express it in words...

I'm so sorry :huggy: It is like everyone says, they just go to sleep. It just sucks how things change suddenly. :huggy: I'm sorry that you are going through this.

ok. So update:

she hasnt gone YET-- but the vet thinks no more than a little while or so-- and the only reason she is letting this happen this way (meaning my parents have her home) is because she is NOT in any sort of pain and not delusioned. She did however have a stroke--- and because of her being an older bigger dog-- it will prolly not take long. She did however, when I showed up at the house- get up and start wagging her tail and almost knocked jesse to the ground by ramming her head between his legs. It was like she was her old self just a little weaker......

Anyway-- I sat with her for a long time--and just held her. It was as if she knew I was telling her goodbye, she just kept licking my hands and face. Do you think this is possible? Well either way, I have made my peace for when the time comes. I will say, it made my heart happy to see that this old gril made time to get herself up and come cuddle with Ireland. She always laughs and sqeels with delight at mickey-- and I guess in the midst of our worry- she wanted to make us smile. I just hope her last days are filled with happiness...
