Their album may have debuted at number 1, but quickly dropped to number 2. Now being number 2 can't be a bad thing can it? It can be when you're still at number two despite losing 25% of your album sales just over the past week. You gotta wonder how bad number 3 is if number 2 can lose a quarter of their sales and still be beating them. Artists that make a "butt ton of money" off album sales do it by hitting number 1 and staying there for several months. I would agree with you that they're on the fast track if their concerts were selling out like they used to as those are the best predictors of album sales, but with tour dates closing down you're not going to see any increases in album sales, only decreases - no matter how good their marketing is.

Also, don't forget Maine's comments about being able to quit country music because she's got the money to be able to do without it. Now she's had to eat crow and get back to work in a genre she hates. Makes one wonder why. My guess is the residuals aren't coming in like she thought they would, which means they aren't selling their older albums either.

Yeah, they're still making money. I find it increasingly humorus the outrage people have over the Dixie Chicks. There are so many Bands out there but people are :jameo: about the Dixie Chicks.

What pisses me off about Maines is how she's trying to put the blame for all their woes on politics. Yeah, their airtime hit the skids after her Bush comments, but their concerts were still sell outs. Then she goes out and starts bad mouthing the country fans, talks about how she hates the genre and isn't going to have anything more to do with it, and how she's got enough money to be bold and brave and tell things like they are. Then when her accountant calls up says "you're broke" and she has to go back to the country fans she's disrespected, she places all of the blame on them and tries to spin the problem back to politics. All you hear from Maines is "Bush", "Iraq", or "patriotism"... but you never hear her mentioning her stated views on country fan stereotypes.

Garth Brooks went the same way. The guy was a license to print money until he decided he was rich enough to quit, at which time he came out talking about how he's never really liked country music. Then he decides to come back and gets a tepid reception from the fans. You can't whiz all over your fan base and expect them to blindly support you.

Actually they were on Howard Stern a couple weeks ago.. I never heard her ##### about the fans. Her deal seemed to have more of an attitude toward the music stations and such. Seems like no one these days likes the music stations LOL.. Clear channel gets beat up everyday by its old and even current DJ's LOL.

She was badmouthing her fans last year... before she got the call from her accountant telling her she needed to whore herself out to the country folks again.

I'm not so sure. If country folks were buying their albums, they would also be going to their concerts... and they're not. Also since Maines has had to go back to whoring herself, it would seem not many people are buying their old albums. Seems to me like non-country people are buying the new CD out of a sense of curiosity or they're lefties wanting to show support for an anti-Bush group... but while they're willing to buy the CD they're not willing to fork over the bucks for a concert ticket.

High album sales, and concert dates cancelled due to low ticket sales, has a nasty smell to it.
