My poor doggie

My rottie Bubba is very sick and they don't think he is going to recover. We may have to put him down tonight. I'm not sure what is wrong with him, the BF is very upset and didn't say much. I'm sitting here in tears. :bawl:

Well I can tell that right now he is hurting and he doesn't deserve that. So whatever they have to do to ensure that he isn't hurting is the right thing to do as far as I'm concerned.

That's exactly what I would feel. I'm so sorry your pooch is in such bad shape. :frown:

I'm so sorry. I lost my 9 y/o GSD last month. I still "hear" her in the house and barking and patrolling the yard...

I am so sorry, I know what your going through. We had to put our rottie down last winter and it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. But if you find out there is nothing they can do to make it easier on him, letting him go is the best thing you can do for your trusted family member. Even though it does not help your heart ache. I have tears just thinking about going through it again. But know in your heart it's the right thing even though it causes you such pain.:huggy:

There was a poem posted in the vets office. Written from the dogs perspective about euthanization. Does any one know which one I am talking about?
I've lost my copy and would like to type it up so I have it electronically. If I have to tear this house up to find it I will. TIA

You're giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.

But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts
Will only be in vain.

So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic that will
Once more make me whole.

The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it's the only way.

That strength is why I've followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I've loved you all these years...
My partner till the end.

Please, understand just what this gift
You're giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I've lost,
And all my dignity.

You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it, too.

So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that's within you,
To grant me this appeal.

Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.

And don't despair my passing,
For I won't be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I'll stay.

I'll be there watching over you,
Your ever-faithful friend,
And in your memories I'll run,
... a young dog once again.

Good News! The vet said that Bubba has hip displaysia and that it's in the early stages, so it's somewhat treatable. The bad news is that it's not cureable. J is supposed to call me when he gets back from the vet this afternoon and let me know what our options are.

I thought it was something much more serious than hip displaysia...He was dragging his leg and shaking, not eating and drinking like usual. I appreciate everyone's concern and I will remember your words of wisdom when the time comes...:huggy:

That's a pretty powerful poem Vrai. I have a lab that is 15 years now, and I know soon that this day will be coming for me. :bawl:

Ehesef, while that's not good news, your pup can live with this for awhile.
Someday the pain will get bad and then you can consider your alternative.
We had a 150 lb St Bernard who lived for years until he couldn't get up and down the steps anymore to go outside. When the vet said the pain could no longer be controlled we had resigned ourselves to that fact. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do..Then had to do it again with a later dog who had tumors..
