My suggestion to conserve gas

The answer to gas supply and prices - telecommute. I figure Bush should mandate that all government workers that do not have to be in the office to do their job must telecommute. We could save millions of gallons of gas just in the D.C. area. Heck, they can surf the web and play solitaire and Freecell just as easy at home as they can in their office. :lmao:

Attorneys do not understand telecommuting. I HAVE to be at work in the office. However, we are now Keller bus riders, starting today.

I am a fed and I take exception to that. Well.....time to get back to work.
The comment on surfing and playing games was to lighten it up a bit. I do think telecommuting would save a lot of fuel. Matter of fact, our office is authorizing telecommuting.

My office has also authorized it and if people don't want to do that, they can work loaded days (10 hr. days).

Catt,

Is 10-hour days an option?

:yeahthat: I've been riding Keller for the past two weeks now. There were only seven seats available on the way home the other night. Maybe we should seriously consider organizing a Rt.4 car/van pool.

We caught the 5:55 out of the Old Fairground. It was the St. Leonard bus. We got a seat but it was probably the most people I'd seen on there. Lucky for me, I get on at 19th & K on the way out of town, so I always get a seat. I think Otter will Metro over to my stop because by the time the bus gets to him, it's pretty full.

I'm not opposed to a car pool at all. But I wonder if it's any cheaper in the long run, really?

I was thinking that this morning..I hate riding the bus, but with the gas prices and parking, it makes no sense. Parking 230 a month and gas running around 120 a week versus approx 80 a week for us to ride the bus.

The hard part about a van pool is getting everyone's schedule together so nobody has to stand around and wait. :ohwell:

It would be a no-smoking carpool, right?

I know someone (it pays to be the VP of the corp) that gets free parking as a job perk and has to travel into the city daily. I'll discuss it with her and get back to you.

Oh-oh, I'll warn Sharon. :lmao:

It won't be the first time I worked from home. She just puts me in my "cave" in the basement, and I come up for coffee, lunch, and at quiting time. Usually, I get more done at home than at the office; fewer interruptions. Right now though, I have all my stuff coded for the new build and no bugs reported against it, so it is a little slack.

We have a guy in our office that telecommutes from North Carolina. He only comes to the office once every two or three months and is present by telephone at our weekly meeting.
