Myrtle Beach

Hi All! My son is planning a beach wedding in Myrtle Beach over "Labor Day Weekend". I'm not sure that is the best timing, due to crowds, but we are told it starts slowing down visitor wise about August 31st. Anyway, have any of you been? Great things to do? Things to avoid? The accommodations are at Myrtle Beach Resorts - Myrtle Beach Resort - Sea Mist Oceanfront Resort which sounds like lots to do without leaving the resort. But if we travel, and there is something extra special, we don't want to miss it. Thanks for you help!

That's also hurricane season so make sure you have a fall-back plan should the weather take a nasty turn.

Margaritaville @ Broadway at the Beach
Shopping
Mini Golf

If you want to do a get away dinner for two then hit New York Prime and bring your $$$ but it is sooo worth it.

Take a sail or cruise in the ICW, casino boats run out of Little River Inlet in North Myrtle.

Try this site: Barefoot Landing. Nice dining spots, Greg Norman's Australian Grille, HUM!! , Umberto's Italian Bistro, double HUM!!, Joe's Crab Shack,, little shops to buy whatever, right up the way is a big shopping center. We go to Myrtle Beach every year either Thanksgiving or Xmas and we have a blast. Lots to do. Broadway on the Beach is great place to eat, shop or just walk around the whole area. Some show places to see some shows.

I've never eaten @ Umberto's, but Rossi's is awesome too.

Look around for non chain restaurants there are some gems down there.
Chestnut Hill
Parson's Table (incredible prime rib)

Thanks everyone...keep the ideas coming, please :howdy:

I guess with all the snow on the ground, I hadn't thought about hurricane season...good point! We got blown off of St. Johns island in late August 1998 by Hurricane Bonnie, and she followed us all the way home!

I live a few miles north of the beach and I work down there daily. Stay away from the city of Myrtle Beach unless you like paying 12.5% tax on EVERYTHING. Alot of the City are strip clubs, hookers, and homeless people. The City of Myrtle Beach is looking bad. Many buisnesses have left the city because people stopped coming because of the high taxes. Check out the rants and raves on Craigslist for Myrtle beach. If your son wants a beautiful wedding, go a little south of Myrtle Beach to Murrells Inlet. Brookgreen Gardens would be THE place to hold a wedding that time of year. North Myrtle's taxes aren't as high as Myrtle Beach. Barefoot Landing is nice but pricey. Little River has a restaurant called "Fins" that would be great for the grooms dinner. Best crabcake since I left MD.

Having Fun!
Friends of ours have relatives in Murrell's Inlet and absolutely rave about it. I spent a couple of days last July in Surfside Beach and fell in love with it -- will definitely go back. Lance gave you very good links!

Murrells Inlet is some of the most beautiful area around here. Ancient live oaks covered in spanish moss, small shops and great seafood. Pawleys Island, Litchfield and Garden City are also nice. Pawley Island hammocks and rope chairs rule.:yay::yay:

I'll be there the same time arriving either Sept.3rd or 4th leaving the 10th. See you at the wedding.:killingme Ive gone every year for the the past 8 years in September. The crowds are not bad Labor Day weekend. I always stay at the Dayton House 24th and Ocean Blvd. Been satisfied with my stay every time. Our favorite place to eat is Carolina Roadhouse, best ribs that Ive found, very nice place to eat. Drunkin Jacks in Murrells Inlet is good also. Lots to do, many shows to see at the various places Alabama Theater, Carolina Oprey, Palace Theater, Dixie Stampede. We have been lucky as far as Hurricane's only once came close. Lots of shopping, two outlets Malls, and one very nice indoor Mall the Grand Strand. Very nice time of year down there during September.

I'm sure it's not the best timing
A week or two later and it would cost half as much

Yep day after Labor Day prices drop significantly. Thats why I always go in September. Had to go a couple of days earlier this year, so I had to include Labor Day weekend.
