Nanny in Leonardtown/Hollywood area?

Hi all,

We are returning to the area after being away for a couple of years and was curious if anyone has been successful in using a live-out nanny? Any recommendations?

I "googled" and found a nanny service now exists in SOMD, but the rates seemed a little high (over $18/hour). I have a six month old and a four year old (who will attend preschool during the day). Having been through the whole daycare center thing, I'm interested in trying a more one-on-one approach to see if I can find someone who's qualified to watch an infant while I'm at work.

If rates really are that high for just watching one child, a nanny may be out o the question. What about nanny sharing? Would anyone want to go halfsies with me?

Would love to get some thoughts from other working moms and dads...

Thanks in advance!

my nephew just hired a nanny. I think there is a nanny group in our area. I think she is from Germany. Do you want me to see if I can find out how he found her? If I do, I will PM you.

Good luck - I think it is a great idea fo nanny-share. I'm fortunate enough to have my Mom watch my kids, but the alternative would have been to find a neighbor with kid/kids to share in the cost for a nanny. My sister-in-law is a nanny, but she is not local.

Had a friend that had a nanny (from overseas) that ended up screwing her after a year. They're on contract & have to return if they break the contract. She basically used them up and then decided she was ready to return home anyhow. Not good.

yeah yeah
Nannies are a good idea. You dont have to use an agency at all. You can go through somewhere such as sittercity.com and care.com to find nannies in the area. There are a few in the area.

Just make sure to get a background check. A lot of the nannies on care.com have background checks.

And for 2 children- a nanny should be about $65-80 a day. (at the lowest that sits at 325 a week..which breaks down with a 8/9 hr day about 7 dollars an hour) which breaks down to And that is all day care for the infant and the preschooler. Which would range for a normal work day about 8.
