Nanny Questionaire

yeah yeah
Hey Everyone. I wanted to poll what thoughts would be on a situation.

If you were in the market for a nanny- set up the interview and asked all the questions you needed to get the background check facilitated and bring your comfort level where it needs to be with your children, see if its the right "fit" for your family- would you find it offensive or out of line if the potential nanny would ask you a series of questions ranging from "how are your children disciplined" to "do you have a criminal background history"

I ask for the fact that to protect my behind and to know what I am jumping into- I have thought about drafting interview questions of my own. I say that with the intention of it is also appropriate for me to feel comfortable and at ease for the family I am working with/for. To find out about them to see if they are the right fit for my needs/wants also. This of course is based on the fact that I would let the family know that I would be pulling up the case records and general information. Also based on the fact if they are telling me the truth. I would let them know it would strictly go with the public records information that can be obtained by anyone.

Idea's and feedback welcomed.

I don't see why not. I am certain they would be doing the same regarding your background.

I agree 100%! They will be thoroughy checking your background to ensure the safety of their children, you should be just as diligent in making sure you are not walking into any type of potentially unstable or dangerous situation. If I were looking for a nanny, I think it would make me feel better knowing that the nanny had the sense to check me out as well.

What love is all about
I agree with the previous two posts. If I hired someone as a nanny and they had the sense to check me out then they are not just gonna let anyone around my kids. They will protect them the same I would.

Glad to hear that everyone agrees.

Unfortunate for me- I had something that was the "type of potentially unstable or dangerous situation". happen.. so that is why I was asking what people would think if it was brought up in an interview.

I think it's a great idea. :yay: If they have issues with you asking those questions, you probably don't want to work for them anyways.

What happened?

In the shortest terms possible- I had to run like hell from a position that the father was a HUGE drug dealer in the area, the mom was in trouble for fraud- and they were selling drugs out of the house- and I had no idea. To the point that the father was in jail- and getting deported.

Well.. I didnt have to worry about that, they never paid me.

Yikes! I think you are being smart checking out your next potential employer and you have every right to do so, for all the reasons mentioned above. You can start out with, "I hope you don't mind if I ask YOU a few questions so I can also determine if we are a good fit" or something like that. I hope your next position is a whole lot better than the last one! :huggy:

That sounds good, but maybe you want to ask if anyone has been arrested and for what reason. Maybe they didn't go to jail but did get arrested for something? Just a thought.

For some reason this question made me feel uneasy.
My initial thought was, "why so you or someone you know can break in my house"
I would answer if I thought the question more on the lines of safety.
See how this sounds:

Does anyone residing in the household own firearms? yes no

If yes, for what purpose do you have the firearm(s).

At any time that a firearm(s) has/have been purchased during my employment, do you agree to notify me immediately? yes no

If I am hired for this position are you willing to safely store the firearm(s), unaccessable to the children, store ammuntion seperately, keep the firearm(s) under lock and key and visually show me that this has been done? yes no

Also: (If I find out that this is an issue in your home, I retain the right to terminate contract immediately and leave without notice)

I would add this above the signature and word it more like:

I retain the right to terminate the contract immediately and leave without notice if discovered that any of the information provided above is false.
