The parents of two Bronx preschoolers are suing the city, charging that their kids were tossed out of class - and handcuffed by a school-safety officer - for refusing to take a nap.

The school-safety officer entered the room, cuffed the boys' wrists - and further terrified them by telling they that they would never see their parents again.

And now that the parents have proved to their children that they do not have to obey the rules and can do anything they please, these kids will certainly grow up to be model citizens. :yay:

That is a little over the top.

Why? When some kid is punished for refusing to follow the established rules and is disruptive to others, and the parents step in and sue the city because some public official made the kid comply, what does that teach the child?

Handcuffing a child because they won't take a nap, I don't blame the kids for being scared of cops after that. Rent-A-Cop took things a little too far.

It was a nap. Kids aren't always sleepy. Hell, I can't force myself to take a nap if I want to take one. Removing them if they were being disruptive is one thing, threating them to sleep is way out of line.

Cuffing them is legal. Spanking them is not. Unfortunately the parents will win the suit and the kids will probably not respect a lot of things in life.

How is cuffing a child for not sleeping legal? It did not say they were acting out, it said they weren't taking a nap.

Little Vrai would have been more upset to have Big Vrai find out that she was acting up in school.

:notbeinghonestwithyourselfhere:

You would have raised all kinds of hell had someone HANDCUFFED your 4YO for not taking a nap.

maybe i would believe you if all they did was make your little precious lay quitely while others napped, but handcuffed? paaaalezzzz

Reminds me of those cop shows where it shows the retards that call 9-1-1 to tell them that their kid is being bad and won't go to bed. You just don't do that. I don't blame the kids for not liking police after that. The one was only 4!

He's a cop right? He has cuffs right? He may have been threatened by the kids and restrained them for everybody's safety as well as theirs. It does say they weren't taking a nap. If they weren't, while others were, they were making noise disrupting nap time. They were not following instructions to take a nap. So what if they weren't tired, lie down and be quite. If they happen to fall asleep, they will be awake when it is time.

anyone else notice that this whole story is coming from the parents, one of whom flat out contradicts their own child in what they say happened? who's to say that they ( children or parents) didn't make the whole thng up?

handcuffed by a school-safety officer -

I have cuffs, does that mean i have the right to cuff your kid for not taking a nap?

Anyway, that story is so over the top it sounds ridiculous and like they made the whole thing up. "Monsters" in the school...duh.

Maybe things have changed, but kiddygarners never used to have to actually sleep at naptime. They could lay quietly. So I assume these kids didn't want to lay quietly. The substitute teacher may have overreacted, but it's highly unlikely that a school cop would get that crazy over some kids simply not being sleepy. The very idea of that is absurd and the whole story isn't being told.

1. Not a cop--school 'safety officer'
2. Didn't say they were disrupting nap time
3. Didn't say they weren't laying down--said they were removed when they didn't take a nap.

You mean to tell me you honestly believe that a 4 year old should be arrested?
