If I may ...

Since when do adult government workers and offices get a 2 hour delay, or liberal leave for wet roads and a wee bit of snow?

When its a safe bet that by the time they finish their shift, it will be a bit more than a wee bit of snow and wet roads. The 2 hour delay will refine the expectations of how bad it will be and they can decide then to just keep everybody home.

The reason for the federal govt is so the parking lots and roads can be cleared to get back to business as usual faster.

I know contractors that have been yelled at for coming in anyway because they kept the lot from being properly plowed.

Weather Underground just backed off their total accumulations from 4"-8" to 3"-5" for Abell.

Current winds are 30+. Means a temp of 34 feels like 31, thus the smow. We already had our high today and will continue to drop until we hit 23-24 degrees by early hours tomorrow.

 Temp of 34 with 30+ winds equals a temp of 20 (or colder). The snow is because the temperature at cloud level is at or below freezing and the air temperature isn't warm enough to melt it as it falls.

I went into the employee portal of the company website and all I saw was, "Get your a$$ to work slacker!"

See...it's like this; the fact that you were even checking to see if the office was open or not reflects very poorly on your enthusiasm level for your job. A motivated and dedicated employee would venture out in to the blizzard at great risk to life and limb simply because they can't imagine not having their ass in the seat in front of their computer. If they arrive and the doors are closed and I'm sipping hot toddies in front of the fireplace...oh well..it's good to be king.

This ain't gonna help your next Performance Review score.

I tried to drive in for work at Lowe's, nearly slid off the road a few times trying to get out of the subdivision. Turned around, went home and called off, did get an excused absence. I'd venture the guess they are not too busy today except last minute shovel and salt buyers.

After some personal reflection and most of a 12-pack, I realized I need to make being a more compassionate employer one of my New Year's resolutions, right behind my goal of tasting a wider variety of craft beers this year.

With that in mind, I've been assured that there is benefit in providing employees with continuing education opportunities. Accordingly, I've offered to pay half of the cost for SGI to attend this course.
