Need a place to stop in Virginia

We are heading to Georgia in a few weeks and we'd like to break up our ride down there with a stop somewhere in the southern portion of Virginia (near Norfolk/VA Beach area). Not sure what's down in that area and we've been looking for possibilities. Would appreciate some suggestions if you have them.

Go a bit further on 95 and stay in Fayetteville. There are tons of hotels and places to eat.

Let me clarify. We are looking for something to do down there. Some place to visit for a few hours. We have two boys (ages 9 and 12). Williamsburg is not an option. Any fun museums or tourist sites would be great. We are planning on stopping in NC on the way back to visit the USS North Carolina battleship if that gives you any idea of the type of things we are looking for.

If you are headed down into the Norfolk area, then you might like to stop at the Nauticus museum. It is a maritime museum located in downtown Norfolk off the water. They also have the battleship Wisconsin docked there as part of the tours.

Maybe if you post your route people could give you an idea. Based on what you have posted so far I would ask if you are running US-17 all the way or would you be traveling the interstate?

Not positive but I believe we take the Interstate, not US 17.

I had inquired about US17 because you mentioned the Norfolk/VA Beach area which is a haul from I-95.

Then Norfolk will add about 6 hours to your drive from I95 and if you're going I85 south of Richmond to Atlanta it will add even more

We decided to stop at the Airbourne and Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville, NC on the way down to Savannah and the USS North Carolina in Wilmington, NC on the way home. Hotel reservations have been made and youngest is most excited about the indoor pool. Me? I am most excited about getting to spend less time with the in-laws and not being stuck in a car for 10 hours straight.

We were looking at the website for the Airbourne museum and my 9 year old asked why this guy was holding a carrot.
