My b/f and I walk his two dogs (on weekends) together; it's the only time I see them, really. The dogs have their own heated house (yes, they're spoiled) in the backyard. Walking them gives them new surroundings and a chance to explore. I'm sure they get bored in the same yard all day.

That sounds good to Chasey_Lane. We would have to figure out where to walk him than just in the yard. He is so big its hard to get him in/out of the truck, and weighs like 120 lbs. But sure we will figure something out for him, and take care of him.

Congrats on the new pup! Is he friendly around other dogs? If so I'll have to bring Moo over to play with him.

Hey Girl! Yeah the previous owners said he was good with the female golden retriever next to them and they were skeptic about it first but they acted like they knew eachother forever, and she said her sister brought over her little dog and they were fine together. I think he will be okay, he is just Huge! Yeah you need to come by, and I need to come visit you and your new home to.

Congrats on the Rottie! As far as letting it walk freely around the yard while you're out there, I think in large part that depends on how good the dog is at obeying verbal commands and boundaries. We've found Rotties to be very food centered; if we have food, they would do anything we want. If your dog is the same way, it might be easiest to take him out with food and train him to respond to you & stay in the yard. In the beginning, Chandler would listen to us until he was far enough away that we couldn't easy catch him; then he'd trot across the street and I'd have to go sprinting after him.

Happy - do you know of any place in SOMD that teaches Shutzhund? We took our pup to a Shutzhund club when we lived in NoVA and he did well but that was years ago and we didn't go very often.

I'd be real careful with doing any bitework training beyond a sch-A (no bitework), many homeowners policies won't cover a bite trained dog. We've been in several competitions ourselves.
That aside, there are is a decent clubbased out of Cordova MD, you can call the talbot kennel club and ask to speak to Brenda Hasbargan. I also have a good friend who does some protection training on the shore, andy is always looking for training partners. He has WindyWoods K-9 410-829-0332, Tell him Dee sent you  His brother is married to my daughter.
