Need advice please

I have 2 neutered male cats....I've had one for a long time, but adopted Tucker in July. Tucker is a huge, fat, 6 yr old boy who likes to pee in the house...not in his litter box. I have 2 litter boxes, and they are scooped every 2 days or so. For some reason, Tucker would rather pee on the bathroom rugs or in the corner near the door. I'm not quite sure if he's peeing or spraying.... I need advice on how to get him to stop. I wash the rugs very frequently...it sounds terrible, but right now I'm afraid to lock them out of the bathroom...I would rather him pee on the rug that's easy to pick up and wash instead of the carpet in another part of the house.

The ONLY thing I can think of why he's doing this is maybe the litter boxes are to small for his large ass. He has no problem pooping in it though...

He gets along with the other cat...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'd really hate to have to kill him. :lmao:

Our Moosie pees on what the other cats like. He got most of the rugs and the little pillow that the girl kitty slept on. The one rug we have left is the one HE sleeps on, therefore it's been left unmarked.

Lot of things could be causing it. I don't use the conventional litter boxes. I have two LARGE Rubbermaid storage containers. They are the same height as a litter box but are much longer. I scoop them EVERY evening.

What type of litter are you using? He may not like the type of litter you are using.

Has he always done this? i.e., maybe a UTI?

It sounds like Tucker is trying to mark everything to show he dominate! When I had my last party.......everone was peeing in the woods, so when I let my dog out to go pee in the moring.......he went crazy....running all over the place trying to pee on everything. It was pretty funny watching him run full speed back and forth. I think they make some kind of spray that will stop them from peeing on the floor. You just have to spray it wherever the cat has peed before.

One of my mother's cats will only go in litter boxes that do not have the top on them. Once she took them top off of it, she was fine. Some cats are just weird.

Maybe I'll take the lid off of one litter box and see if that makes a difference. I'm using TidyCats right now....Mabye I'll try switching litter...though I just bought a big tub of it. :banghead: I don't think he has a UTI. He's always done this....the first time we saw him pee, it was after giving him a big bunch of fresh catnip. I thought he just went a little  because of it. I have seen him in the litter box with his head sticking out multiple times....that might be an obvious sign I wasn't paying attention to.

Dear Emma,
I appreciate your thoughtfulness on this matter. However, at this time I would like to decline your offer. I may, however, decide to accept your offer at a later time. This will all depend on the behavior of the cat. I will keep your contact information in case I need it in the future. Thank you for your offer.

P.S. You're purty cute....for a malamute/husky/whatever you are! :lmao:

I just wanted to let you all know that I bought this tub from Lowes a few weeks ago. Both cats love it. I clean it out twice a day. About 99.3% of the peeing on the bathroom rug has stopped! And the best thing? The tub was only $4.97....a both litter boxes I had cost $13.

I bought my kitty a dome litter box, and luckily he loves it. He was in the habit of pooping on the side of the litterbox, so I was having to scrub it down all the time. :barf: And as an added bonus, the dog can't fit his big ole head into the dome litter box. :yahoo:

:yay: It's good to find one they like. Your cat is small...mine is 17 lbs...a real lardo...he hated the lid.

This may sound odd...but I have 2 males and 3 females. The males insist that the litter box is spotless! They have even thrown stuff out of the box in order to use it. It has been my experience that the males seem to be more meticulous and tidy, in addition to not liking the lids as the females do. One of my males does not like to share "his" box period! Good luck!

Another option for litter..dont laugh..is chicken feed.
Many rescue groups are using it..soft, cheap and absorbs as well as clay..and it is soft for cats feet.

I use Fresh Step and a big, big box..a plastic storage bin from wal mart.
One of my males is a high marker..and the tall box prevents accidents.

I had an old sick cat and he was peeing in one spot, (on the carpet) could not make it to the box...so I used puppy pee pads..he used them and did ok ( I did not care as long as he was comfortable) until he died from heart disease 4 weeks ago. I still miss the old guy...

Suggest you talk with your vet to rule out ay medical issues and see what he advises.
God luck!
