Need help finding work clothes

I have worn a uniform for probably 27 years. I got a new job where I can wear business casual. I have no idea on what to wear or where to get it. At home, I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. I never go anywhere that requires nice clothes.

I know I need to go to an actual store and just try on things but I hate going to actual stores and I really hate trying on clothes. What stores would you recommend to get casual work attire?

I can't help you, but this is one of the major perks of working in the labor force. You wear what you need per the weather forecast.

Congratulations on the new gig!!

@RareBreed start with Old Navy for some work pants... they have these super comfy "Pixie" pants. Usually they have like a slim ankle cut, but also carry boot cut/flare etc. You can at least try them on in store and order the preferred style online (I know, not ideal...but our location just isn't always stocked with all their styles). These particular pants are super comfy and flexible and come in standard colors, plus some fun patterns. I consider them a great work wardrobe builder. I've bought them in many sizes and colors over the years in all my various gains and losses and they are always flattering, no matter the size. I particularly like that they offer petite/short since I am just that....short.

As far as tops, again stick with basics as you build. I've bought several sets/3-packs of plain v-neck tees on amazon and pair them with cardigans I find in Marshalls/TJ Maxx. That dresses the basic tees up a little since I hate "blouses". I have some of those but I prefer a simple cotton tee and dress it up with simple jewelry and cardigans.

Not sure what you're allowed for footwear, but I just got these for the summer and you'd never know they're crocs. They are so cute and comfy! https://www.crocs.com/p/brooklyn-buckle/207431.html

don't overthink it too much! And don't feel pressured to buy patterns and colors that you wouldn't normally wear at home or they'll just sit in your closet for 10 years, ask me how I know  I've curated my own work "uniform" over the years: small wedge or mule, slim ankle pants, plain tee and nice cardigan, repeat Mon-Fri. I'm lucky enough I get to wear jeans nowadays but when I need to dress up a little for a special meeting or whatever, I just swap for my Old navy pixie pants. I never find nice pants at Marshalls/TJ Maxx, but that's just me. I see them they're just not normally my size/style.

My concern with pants is getting the length right because I am 5'10 and basically all legs. Most pants are high waters on me and I have to buy a bigger size so they hang off my hips so they are long enough. I was told that the person before me sometimes wore jeans so I would imagine they were either black or dark denim. I do have one pair of nice pants which I call my "funeral pants". Haven't had to wear them yet but that is an option. I am hoping I can get away with nice tees or at least pull overs because I'm not a blouse or button up girl. Shoes will be black sneakers. I don't wear anything else.

Old Navy usually offers tall lengths too, I just only have experience with the short lengths  The nice thing about "ankle" length is it's not as noticeable if they're just a smidge too short, it looks intentional!

Good luck!

Thought I was starting the new job soon. A week or so but now I'm not sure. Reached out to HR because I was told that Monday would be my first day by one person and May 5th by someone else. Seems like since offering me the job last week, nothing has been done since and there is no official date right now. It's not like I'm super thrilled with the new job. Less pay and still the long commute but I'd be away from idiots in current job. I'm starting to think I made a mistake saying yes to the job and just kept applying for jobs with Calvert and St Mary's Co government like I had before. Honestly, I still might even when I do get upstairs. With my pension and whatever salary, I'd be making more than I am now and I'd have a short commute.
