I installed a new hard drive but I can't seem to access it, no drive letter shows up in explorer.
It shows up as installed in the new hardware section of control panel, it shows up when I go into the bios at start up.
In the bios, it is the IDE primary slave with auto slection and auto access mode.
Running Windows Xp Pro

Husband says: Take the jumper off the master and put it on either the slave or cable select. Sounds like japanese to me but hope it helps you.

This may help you. I think the drive just needs to be initialized by the OS

How to use Disk Management to configure basic disks in Windows XP

(Inside of Disk Management)
Your new drive should be on the right, with a black bar indicating it isn't partitioned. Right-click the bar, and choose New Partition to launch the New Partition wizard.

Hope this helps.

Husband says you are right and he was wrong. Not going to ask him to help out anymore:lmao:

Secondary drive? Not your primary? Right-click on My Computer, select Manage, then Disk Management. You can see what Windows thinks. You probably need to Partition it it, and/or format it.

If you get stuck, let me know.

 SO? Did you smoke it yet????
