Need to vent about Charles Co School

Why do they do this!

The roads are horrible! They just announced an early dismissal.

GRRRRRRR... Do they not realize that most parents have already made their way into town (hello most people commute out county!!!!!)

Why didn't they just say 1 hour late until they figured out that it would actually snow. I would rather all the kids be safe and miss a full day of work than have kids out on the roads when they shouldn't be.

Apparently their are cars in ditches all along 225/301... I just hope none of them were kids trying to make it to school

GRRRRRRR

ok i'm better now. sorry

Damn if they DO Damn if they DONT
:yeahthat: If they'd called off school before the first flake fell, people'd be whining about having to take off work or make child care arrangements when there isn't even any snow out there. And if, heaven forbid, it didn't actually snow at all (which has happened) then they get flooded with calls from irate parents.

I've heard that one before and I expected it to be said on the boards :howdy:

But seriously isn't there some published guideline as to what should happen in cases like this? Other than "If it becomes necessary to close schools during the day, local radio and television stations are notified and asked to make announcements, usually by 10:30 a.m" (courtesy of the CCBOE website)

Luckily I know how horrible the county is with calling schools and I had Plan B in full swing this morning. Most people are not as fortunate to have a Plan B and it would be helpful to know what would likely happen (yes of course there will be exceptions to every rule).

Wouldn't it be best in a case like today to have the kids all day (with the exception of afternoon pre-k) because they are already there? Let the crews have time to really treat the roads and then release?

I mean am I missing something? I have lived in the county all my life and went to school here. It just seems there are always last minute calls or calls that should have been made but never were. Anne Arundel closed before I got out of bed and the radar didn't even show flakes in the county.

You could always keep your child(ren) home without regards to what the school system is doing.

Wait a minute now. Are you saying that parents could actually make decisions that directly affect the safety of their children? They don't have to wait for the government to tell them what to do?

You are obviously not familiar with the whole philosophy of "hope" and "change."

AACPS are closed today and tomorrow for staff development.

But the weather is only supposed to get worse and it'll take hours for the roads to be treated, especially in the neighborhoods. If the keep the kids in school until the roads are all treated, they'll have to set up cots.

No I very much need someone to tell me what to do

Thats why my kid is home today :howdy:

I'm just curious to know if there is an actual plan? I know a plan is a lot to ask for.

Yeah, okay.

What are you really mad about? Because the schools are letting off early or you have to leave work early?

Yeah, okay.

So wait, your kid isn't even affected and you are still complaining? Some people just can't be happy. If I were you, I'd be happy that I made the correct decision and move on with my day.

rwethereyet

Yeah, okay.
LOL like I said my kid is home
I just was curious to know if there was a plan.

They have a plan. It's trying to make a decision. Just like you made a decision. No matter what decision the schools make, a parent would be complaining. It's just too bad that a parent who is not affected by the decision is still on here complaining.
