Oz

You're all F'in Mad...

I don't think that it would be more than hour and a halfs work for 2 people to do. Its about 6 feet long, 3 feet wide, and no depth. There are only 2 bushes inside it. I wouldn't pay no more than $120.00 total to get it done.

A landscaping company is going to charge you more than $45 per hour plus materials which probably blows up your budget.

:ohwell:

What happened to your back?

WOW, that innocent post got you fired up??

You're a little too sensitive for this crowd.. you might want to check the "Friends of Barney" room on the PBS website.

You might want to visit the "Get A Life" room on the Ooooh Look at Me website. :lalala: I'm a big girl, I can take it. Get a clue

Hey Oz! I injured my back while at college. Four hard years of NCAA Division I Fastpitch softball.

interesting take on the situation.
so
here is mine.

when it comes to business, and charging a price to do a certain job, generally speaking those that do the job on a professional basis KNOW what it is going to cost to do it. Believe it or not, most sales people, business owners etc... have a pretty good idea of what they have to charge.

now, every once and a while you will get a new customer that feels he or she knows what the business needs to charge better than that owner, and this person will sit there and try to dictate what they are going to pay.
It just does not work this way.

Im not sure what you do for a living but I can with great certainty assume that you know better than I do what your time is worth and what the market will allow when it comes to your pay. Im sure that if I looked at your job and told you that you would do it for me for 1.25 an hour you would not work for me.

See, I run into people almost every day that try to dictate how much I will charge, how long it will take, what my overhead should be etc... and basically, I just as nicely as I can tell them to try another company, because I just cant do it for their expectations.

I guess what Im trying to say is that when you are in a certain business and you know what you have to have to maintain your profit margin (thats what the business owner gets paid from) those people that will try to tell you what you will charge them are in fact considered the a-holes.

before you call other people here a-holes for just having a good time, maybe you should look real close at the way you try to conduct business in your own life.

hint, for what you want done and the cost of the materials, to do it for your 120 dollar limit, you might want to find a couple of the neighborhood kids that are willing to do it.

just trying to be helpful

Thanks for trying to be helpful. You said, "before you call other people here a-holes for just having a good time, maybe you should look real close at the way you try to conduct business in your own life." What exactly are you trying to say here? What "business" in my "own life" do I have to conduct? Sorry, but I am brutally honest. I have to say what is on my mind within the boundaries that are allowed. If someone takes offense to being called an "a-hole", then that is their own problem. I am not calling EVERYONE in the forum an a-hole, but there are many of them. Geez, I can't respond to someone (mikesinmd) that brings irrelevancy to my thread because their hormones are talking. Discussed this issue in my last graduate course. A prime disadvantage of threaded discussions is that because you are seperated by distance, time, and the current emotions at the immediate time of viewing a message; things may be taken out of context. Another disadvantage is that if not moderated, the topic may get off hand.

All I'm looking for is someone to do the work (professional, non-professional). I have already stated that I am not looking for anything pricy, but I am willing to negotiate. I have also previously stated that I don't know squat about landscaping, so maybe I do have to adjust the pay. I don't think I am going to repeat myself again about this. Hope that most of you are reading the series of posts before jumping down my throat. It's all good!

damn mike, I never thought I would meet a bigger pig than me,, but......

now, that is a small job, but you still will have a hard time finding a professional company to do it for that amount.

since we are trying to make ammends here, You have to understand that in my business I am constantly being told by the customer what I should be charging, and personally it does get a bit annoying after awhile.
When I look at the job, I see 2 guys 2 hours and about 100 in material to prep the bed correctly. that includes turning in some good topsoil, leaf mulch and preen. then covering it with a 3 inch layer of mulch ready for you to plant.

my quote (and I still could not justify the price of travel from here to there) would have to be a minimum of 400 dollars. and as bad as that sounds, if I were to show you dollar by dollar why it was that much you would understand that I personally do not make that much from any one job. I have to have a couple going on at a time in order to get that cheese burger from McDonalds.

I will also say this, after running my own business for a few years I have come to the conclusion that I will never argue anyones price. I will either agree to pay it, or I will politely decline. If its something that Im paying someone else to do, I do not know what it takes him to run his business, so I have no choice but to assume his prices are in line with what he will be doing,,, otherwise I doubt he/she would be in business for long.

MAYBE if there was a blizzard, and I couldn't go outside.. and the cable company shut off EVERY channel but one.. and it had NASCAR on.. and BG was on travel so we couldn't be doing the freaky freaky.. and the DVD and VCR plaayer were broke..

Can't take it huh. I'm pretty young actually. So 10 months of weight lifting 4 times a week, sprinting on hard gym floors 3 days out of the week, diving for fly balls in grass 6 days out of the week, diving into 2nd and 3rd base from a full sprint 5 days out of the week, diving for grounders on hard gym floors 2 days out of the week, swinging 26 ounce bats at 60 MPH pitches from 40 feet 6 days out of the week and getting epiderals, electric stim current shot through my back, and ice bags and heating bags placed on my back 6 days out of the week, bone scans, X-Rays, therapy, sitting in a small crunched up seat for 12 hours while travling to play ball (all of this for 4 years I might add)...it seems like a big job to me. So yes, I do feel like I'm 50. You try putting your body through so much stress while involving the mental stress of getting good grades then you can tell me what you can and can't do.
