Neighbor dog...

At my Parents house neighbor had 3 dogs, two little rat looking things then one a only a little bigger. They have a full fenced in yard but alas they are very ignorant and do not ever close the gate. The bigger dog kept tormenting my Dad. He has a fused ankle, can't run has to wear special shoes. My Dad was taking off his shoe and this mutt comes and grabs it from him and runs in the woods. My parents are too nice for their own good sometime. I wanted to set up a trap then put the dog on the neighbors steps to give them a hint, also wanted to fire some warning shots in the air to get their attention. Parents did not want me too so I did not.. All this is within the last few weeks. Well don't have to worry about the dog anymore :lmao: Stupid neighbor ran it over about 100 yards from her house, with her kids in the car :lmao: and get this she left it in the road, it stayed there for at least 3 days before something came and ate it :lmao: I mean it's not the dogs fault, just think this lady has 2 more little rat dogs and who knows what she is going to do to them

Appendixqh lives in an area were people let there dogs run. I have dealt with the same thing. If I even see a strange dog close to my livestock I will pop a shot close to them or pop them with a bb gun, If they come back shame on them. I'm by far not an animal killer but my horses are worth alot more than a lose dog. A few years back there were problems with stray dogs running in packs killing livestock.

When I was about 5 I can remember my Dad would carry his .44 magnum when he went bow hunting because there used to be packs of wild dogs running around :jameo:

If you are the guy who lives up by New Market with a shooting range on your property, the dog you speak of was put down on the 21st of April. If you are not, please follow what most are saying, talk to the owner, if that does not work, call animal control and have them talk to the owner, they will work it

I am not in NewMarket...Let me answer all of these posts best I can. The owner witnessed the dogs behavior, tried to get control of the dog, but couldn't...and eventually ran the dog to its home. The owner said sorry, and I appreciate that, but I do fear how the dog may react if it gets out again with my son playing in our yard. I would not shoot the animal in front of my son...If I saw this dog out, the first thing I would do is get my son in the house and safe, and then grab the gun. I would then try to get the dog away from my animals / livestock, but if it gets aggressive (after reading the regulations someone posted...THANK YOU!) and comes after me or my animals again, on my property, it's going to be shot. I love animals, but have no tolerance for one that behaves like this off of its own property. These people have another dog, it has gotten out before and came to our place...the animal was not aggressive at all, completely non-threatening, so I have no problem with it and would not even consider shooting it. But this black lab mix scared the be-geezes out of me, and I can't have that running around our place. I would have to say this is a normal parental reaction for someone protecting their own. :yay:

They may want to know why you went into the house to get the gun and then shot the dog when you could have stayed in the safety of your home. Call the po po.

I would have done it to protect the horses and my animals...we have foals right now and a dog like that can easily take one down, or at least hurt it by chasing it into a fence.

I would protect my own animals as well as myself and any children. Seems like you have done everything possible and the dog's owners are also aware of the problem. It is their responsibility to keep an agressive dog at large. My neighbors have friendly dogs and when they jump in the field with my horses I always hear your horses better not kick my dog and my reply is always your dog is in my field with my horses and if they get kicked it is their own damn fault because you do not see my dog in the fence with the horses.

I was at Well Pet Clinic this morning, and a man & his little girl came in with a dog that was scary-aggressive. It had apparently been aggressive to their neighbor and they were trying to hand him over to Well Pet. The girl at Well Pet tried approaching in a very non-threatening way, but couldn't even get within 5 feet of the dog without it going after her, barking aggressively, as well as the other people in the lobby. Well Pet wouldn't take the dog, and basically told the people that the dog was a danger and that they should do the "responsible thing". I totally respect them at Well Pet. They really love animals, but not blindly...

Regardless, it was a sad situation because I saw them driving away and the dog was happy, tongue hanging out, looking out the window, sitting between the man and the little girl.

Really sad for the dog and the family. :frown:

Amen! Sad situations happen, and I am sure the dog loved the owner, but the "what if..." scenario is frightening should that dog hurt someone...especially another child! Very sad for the little girl...

I hear ya! The big horses can usually take care of themselves, and if they kick or bite a dog that goes in there...well the dog better learn quick, friendly or not it could get a butt whoopin from a horse!

And from a news report from last year:

Coyotes becoming more common in Maryland

Daily Record, The (Baltimore), May 13, 2006 by The Daily Record Staff
"What looked like a dog carcass along U.S. Route 50 last week turned out to be an unusual animal for these parts - a coyote. However, coyotes are becoming more common, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. Karina Blizzard, associate director for the department's Wildlife and Heritage Service, said coyotes are established in every county in Maryland."
