N.N.O is a National event and held the first tuesday in August, They are a good time for everyone who attends. Some of the events have various games for the kids, The Sheriffs Office sends a deputy down to hang out and be with the people, answer questions if needed and hand out goodies, Most of them are held on blocks at someones house or a street, st Marys averages about 20 differant neighborhoods. Plus you get out and meet neighbors, and yes it is advised to lock the doors.

I don't think that is a good idea. What county and who is telling people to do that?
The Drum Point neighborhood has a huge sign that says for everyone to meet in CRE at the clubhouse. That would take me out of my neighborhood, rather than stay on my own street and meet with those next door!

As hot as it's gonna be, I'm pickin up a 6-pack and stayin in. I've met my neighbors before and haven't seen them in a week. Situation normal. I'll stay in, enjoy the a/c and keep an eye on their houses for them should they decide to venture out and "meet their neighbors".

I think they'd have a better turn out if they had NNO at the beginning of summer, still after school is out, but when the weather ain't so dang hot. People might be more willing to meet their neighbors if the risk wasn't so high of having to smell them too.

I meet most of my neighboors when I take my kids out for Holloween. Down the road they have a small bon fire, beer, lawn chairs and good company. They hand out candy, but they always ask you to stay for at least one drink. Soon everyone from the street is gathered there while their older kids trick or treat on their own.
