Neighbor's kid....

(7yr) came over yesterday with his 3yr old autistic(sp?) brother.
I only know this because he announced it when they showed up. No call from the parent's, they crossed a 50mph road alone to get there and he's in diapers. I've never had contact with this child and have no idea how to handle him IF something came up. I had to follow after him and keep him directed at safe play the whole time he was there. Thankfully he didn't seem to mind. I let him stay about 45min before I made up my mind and marched him home by the hand. I told his father he was too young to come over and play at our house.

The father had NO idea he was at my house and he wasn't even looking for him, said thank you and please send home the older one. Totally blows me away. I don't understand parents today.

I'd report them to CPS. Children that age should not cross the street alone, and they should be missed as soon as they can't be heard playing.

His autistic 3 year old was missing for 45 minutes and he didn't notice???? Call CPS indeed.

Apparently he had given them permission to go one place and they went another. However he did not walk them nor did he call to see they got there.

He shouldn't be giving a 3 year old, autistic or not, permission to go anywhere by himself.

Save a child. Make the call.

I think that this incident was a one time event.

If it happens again - yes I will call.

I see you've dealt with CPS before. You know they'll give enough information to the parent that they'll figure out you were the one that called and you want to avoid the confrontation with the parent. I would have had the confrontation when returning the child but too late for that now...

We had a similar family - baja will know who I'm talking about - the kid went wherever and the mother had no clue where he was. A neighbor called CPS. Families stopped speaking BUT the good side of it is the parents ACTUALLY BECAME INVOLVED WITH THEIR CHILDREN!!! They played with the kids, took them places, did everything they weren't doing before when they expected the neighborhood to raise the kids for them.

Make this call.

Yep, he doesn't come around now unless I'm outside. :yay:

Large improvement from the time he snuck into my house in the middle of the night and drank juice and watched tv. :jameo: Or the time he tried to hide from his mother by climbing in your boat.

It sounds as if this went on for some time.
At what point DID you decide to call?
