Neophobia in kids

My son eats pretty well, but we have the hardest time getting him to eat vegtables. Sometimes we tell him we will take him to baskin robins if he will eat four green beans, and he just won't do it. When we force him to try corn he actually gags. So now we give him a childrens vitamin every day, and keep trying on the veggie's. Luckily he will eat everything else.

My four kids totally disprove that study. The oldest eats anything and everything...he loves all veggies, and eats tomatoes like they were apples. Number two is so fussy he has to be forced to eat anything but corndogs and waffles. The third is mostlly a meat eater, so we have to "encourage" him to eat fruits and veggies. As for the youngest...he's pretty easy, but there are some foods he won't even try.

If food pickiness is genitic, why are all my kids so different?

When boy #2 here was 3, he would tell us that corn "violated" his stomach. :lmao:

I agree. :yay:

I have four and they are all extremely different in their eating habits.

That is so true. While my youngest is the big meat eater and avoids veggies, my oldest cuts the fat off of everything. Even if it's a tiny sliver of fat he will take the time to trim it off.

Too funny. :killingme Did he just start eating corn when he grew up or does he still avoid it?

With my kids and the rules of this house is, everyone comes to the dinner table and you don't get up until your vegetables are gone. I could care less if they eat anything else as long as those vegetables are eaten. The only one that still insists on arguing with me and trys the crying thing is my youngest. If I didn't make him eat his veggies he would eat nothing but sugar or anything else that would be considered junk food. After 8 yrs. of NOT winning the arguement you would think he would give up! My oldest is somewhat picky but not too bad. My daughter she is not a meat eater. My youngest is the pickiest of all three. But the rules are if I cooked it your either going to eat it or starve. If you tell me your full and an hour later ask for a snack, your dinner plate is usually wrapped up in the fridge and thats what you get for your snack. I'm very strict, but it was how I was raised. I eat all kinds of vegetables and fruit and I offer the same to my children. People can't believe all of my children will even eat spinach and come back for more! :lmao:

My daughter (10) pretty much eats anything. I think that's because I introduce her to new things, even if I don't like it. She doesn't have to eat everything, but she DOES have to TRY it!

A Different World
Bucky Covington

We were born to mothers who smoked and drank
Our cribs were covered in lead based paint
No child proof lids no seat belts in cars
Rode bikes with no helmets and still here we are, still here we are
We got daddy’s belt when we misbehaved
Had three TV channels you got up to change
No video games and no satellite
All we had were friends and they were outside, playin’ outside

Chorus
It was a different life
When we were boys and girls
Not just a different time
It was a different world

School always started the same every day
The pledge of allegiance then someone would pray
Not every kid made the team when they tried
We got disappointed and that was all right, we turned out all right

Chorus

Bridge
No bottled water, we drank from a garden hose
And every Sunday, all the stores were closed

Chorus

Chorus

It was a different world
this song reflects how rough our parents had it and most of the kids today don't know it.

My parents drove a van with no back seats. They strapped my car seat to the BACk of the passenger seat. Mom didn't have a car seat, she stood in the back middle so she could look up front.
