Thanks! I didn't realize there was a new version out. I just ordered one, should get it tomorrow.

I've been lookng at the energy reports the Nest produces and am starting to see our household heating patterns. Yesterday, our heat ran for three hours out of the 24 hour reporting period.

I have the first gen Nest and have had it since about June 2012. Love it and I'm pretty sure that it has almost paid for itself with the Auto Away feature. I did lots of traveling this past summer and normally, I never remember remember to turn the AC down or off while I'm away. This summer, I had the lowest electric bills ever. Also, it's awesome to click it on when you're a few hours out and come home to nice and cool house.

Pretty nice to click it up or down a degree or two from bed as well. :)

I can not compare it to previous years utility costs because 1. I had only lived in this house about 1 year when I replaced it 2. My AC compressor died one week after I got the Nest. it was 15 years old and making nasty noises and decided to die. I'm sure the new unit helped costs too, but not as much as the savings reflecting of being turned off for extended periods during the hot season.

After having it for only 2+ weeks, I can't imagine going back to a "regular" programable thermostat again. It's an excellent product! From the auto-away feature, being able to access it from my phone/iPad, its' intuitive auto-learning, and even just how the thing looks.....it's really nice.

I originally hesitated due to the price, but it is worth every penny. :yay:

I really like mine as well. There are so many more programming options than were available on my last programmable. If I wanted to, I could program a different temp for every hour of the day that could be different from every other day. The lockout feature is nice too. It's not just a simple lockout, although I can do that. What the Nest allows, is a lockout with a permitted window. In other words, everyone at home can adjust the Nest to any temp they want within the temp range that I assign. The Web interface is very user friendly.

I got a Nest thermostat a couple of months ago and I'm very happy with it. A lot of the benefit is psychological - it makes you more aware of what you're doing with regard to thermal conditioning and it makes it easier to make adjustments, so you're more likely to make better decisions about your settings.
