Netbook vs Laptop

A laptop is a full size (12" or larger) screen with the full compliment of things you'd expect in a laptop, usually to include a CD/DVD drive.

A netbook is a small footprint laptop (12" or smaller screen) which does not have a CD/DVD drive and usually has a smaller/less impressive processor and typically lower performance components. The network devices are not speedy, etc... If all you do is email and surf, it's just fine.

However, a netbook is very lightweight and has good battery life, so is very portable. In a lot of respects, it's kind of like a tablet, but it has a keyboard and no touch screen (the newer units with Win 8 might...).

And then there is the 'in-between' units. i have an Acer 1410 that has the footprint and physical characteristics of a netbook, but the processor and storage of a laptop. It's the only computer I use for everything. If I want a bigger screen, I hook it to an external 24" monitor or my 42" LVD TV.

Thank you, this is what I was looking for. I'm only using it for recreational purposes. Not work so essentially FB, SoMD, Netflix. Etc. I hate the tablet I had because of the touchscreen and typing. Kiddo busted my laptop last week. :ohwell: dads a ####ty babysitter, but I think I will just snag up a NetBook

I've had an acer netbook for years, and it has worked out well for me. I even used it for work. I think my husband paid $200 for it after my desktop crashed

Unfortunately, when the battery gave out and I bought a new one, the book doesn't see the new battery now. Apparently it is a common issue, and there is something you have to do with the bios to correct it. I've been too chicken to make an attempt

Not yet, I have been using my husbands Acer little netbook and it's really slow. How do the Mac's compare? I also don't like how tiny the keyboard is.

I have a Macbook Pro (several years old) and just bought a new Air over the weekend. I LOOOOOOOOOVE these machines. Love!!!!!!!! I was hooked on Dell for a long time before pulling the trigger on Apple.

I've had Dell, Sony, HP, and none have lasted more than 2 years, the HP is dead b/c of kid, but I hated it anyway. Maybe I'll have to check it out, almost pulled the trigger on a Gateway netbook last week b/c Ebay had them some big blowout, but, again I was't very familiar and did't want to just go with the cheapest

I want to say my Pro is a 2005 or 2006 and I still use it so that tells you how good they last. I was NOT in the market for a new laptop but hubby said they were on sale so naturally we bought one. Macs really never go on sale so I was pleased with the savings. :buddies:

Step up to a Caddy ......

or a better basic PC - maybe a business class unit like HP elite-books or Dell Latitude
