Sorry about that chief.
Since I work in the world bank/IMF complex it is great! They have armed soldiers in the metro stop, extra cops on the street, bomb sniffing dogs in front of our building and 3 big trucks without drivers parked out front?! Not to mention running the gamut of newsies doing their morning report on the way to work, saw a little cutie from channel 11 in Baltimore this morning.

Typical GOP posturing... creating a crisis so they can swoop in and "save the day". Bunch of fear-mongering crap! I find it funny how this happened RIGHT AFTER the DNC and Bush's poll numbers were dropping like flies.

But seriously folks... actually I find it to be good news that after all the slamming of intelligence agencies going on right now (whether deserved or not), they are capable of finding and stopping these threats.

It's scary that these things are being plotted against us, but I'm glad to see 'Homeland Security: 1, Terrorists: 0'.

Which street was all that stuff going on? trucks, etc.?? I rode right past it on my way in and everything appeared the same as it usually is.

I'm on G between 18 & 19. Actually they are delivery trucks, 18 & 19 aren't even affected surprisingly enough. There's a big yellow Ryder truck right outside my window now.

I come up 20th on the way in and didn't see a thing. I was expecting more traffic but nothing... I go out 19th in the evenings but I might go a different way just to avoid the mess, if any.

The effort they (the terrorists) have put into this one is pretty alarming. Even knowing how many people are generally on the sidewalks outside of the building at a given time, which guards have guns, etc. Lets hope we can stop it before it happens. Unfortunately, if they use something like a car bomb, it isn't like we can stop them all the way. Sure, we can keep them possibly from reaching a particular building, but you're talking about downtown DC and NYC. If they detonate anywhere, they will cause damage.

Only change over here is extra security guards.

My plan is to continue to live my life. Sounds simple, but if I don't, then the terrorists have won.

I would suspect that of any government agency, no matter what political party is in charge. Under Hoover, the FBI's Most Wanted list was a PR gimmick. The bureau would fill the list with fugitives that it was close to tracking down, just to make itself look good.

 I saw the Pres on the tube a little while ago, announcing he endorsed the 9/11 commision's recomendation to create a National Security Director position; betcha the Dems didn't think he'd do it!

One reporter asked Pres. Bush about the new alert warnings, and if they were harmful, because they simply would make the terrorists go out and attack other targets - well, he replied, I think the residents of those cities would be appreciative that once we recieve/analyse reliable threats, that we inform them, and then act on them to strengthen security measures.

Geeez, the guy can't catch a break anyhow, can he?

If he had stayed silent on these threat revelations, and something went downin any of these cities, he'd be branded as not having perceived the threat, and done nothing to prevent them!

Can't have it both ways, folks...................

Man, we got accosted by media types going out to lunch. Fox 5, WBAL, WJLA all came up and wanted to talk to us.

Coming back we saw a big crowd outside the front of world bank HQ and walked over, all the media turned and lit up their cameras when we walked up. Turns out treasury secretary Snow and his goons were behind us. He gave a little sound bite about "how important it is to keep the banks open at a time like this" before walking into the building.

Yeah sure, like I need my Visa bill on time when it hits the fan!

That sounds good in theory but if I keep doing what I'm doing and end up blown to pieces, the terrorists still win.

Two thoughts come to mind:

One, while we are on our way to work, or just out to the Pizza Hut, or picking up the laundry from the dry cleaners, we have to stay aware of our surroundings. That being said, you can't allow it to consume your everyday living.

Two, there are people out there who still don't think the threat is real. They say it's being done for political reasons. The Pres. reminded the audience of that fact this morning - the terrorists are cold-blooded killers who want nothing short of our extermination.

We can't let them win; we have to stay on the offense and not let them dictate to us, ie., react to an event after it's already occured.

What do you think of it now? They've had this information for three years... anyone have an opinion on why it's being released at this particular point in time. It doesn't seem to make much sense.

I could just as easily be struck by lightning or hit by a car crossing the street.

I keep an eye on my surroundings and look for anyone suspicious, but I'm not going to hide in my house because my office building could be a potential target.

I'm not saying that I'm not scared, because that's not true. But I'm not going to run and hide. Carpe diem, you know?
