New bad habits

My cat has decided after 13 years that it is suddenly acceptable for her to jump on my table and my counters. Earlier today I found that I'd left my pantry ajar and found her on the shelf in there.

Looking for food is not the issue, although I could understand that as a motive. She's jumping up when there is no food and I frequently find her asleep in the middle of the kitchen table. She usually will do this when I'm not home and then take her time about getting down when I do come in, but sometimes she does this when I'm only a few feet away. :banghead:

This makes me crazy. I hate to say it, but I'm afraid it's a sign of her getting too old to care, although she is jumping down before I can get close enough to smack her.

Ours will get up on the dining room table when we are not home and make himself comfy on the placemats. I put the napkain holder on the placemats and he won't get on the table. Makes me wonder what else he does when I'm not home.

spray her with water.
Can't get close enough. She knows she's not supposed to be there and she jumps down before I can get close enough to her, but not like she's feeling guilty about it...

For example, this afternoon, when I came home, she meowed at me when I came in the door, I didn't see her right away because she was on the table but hidden by a chair, so basically she was announcing the fact that she was on the table or else, complaining that I'd disturbed her nap :eyebrow:. The door is about 20 feet from the table. By the time I took 3-4 steps, she had casually gotten up and jumped to the floor.

I have a couple of those electric mats that shock their feet when they walk on them. They're not cheap but they'll shock you pretty good.

I realized my cat was a counter-jumper when I found her in the middle of the kitchen floor munching on a slice of pizza that she dragged off the counter.

Yesterday morning when I went to leave for work, she meowed at me from where she had spent the night sleeping on the counter as I entered the kitchen. She didn't get down on her own either. I had to poke her to get her to get up and get down.

She has also started meowing every time somebody moves in/near the kitchen. She never used to meow like that. She'd meow a greeting when we came home from somewhere or when she wanted something from us, but that'd be about it.

I've got it! She's decided she wants a new punching bag. I think we need to adopt a new beagle puppy.
