I don't feel like fiddling with the memory issue my 4 year old Dell is having so here's what I'm looking at:

Dell Dimension 4700 Series Pentium® 4 Processor 520 with HT Technology (2.80GHz, 800 FSB)
Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 400MHz
17 in E173FP Flat Panel Display
Hard Drive 80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive
No Floppy Drive Included
Ethernet card
Fax Modem
48x CD-ROM Drive + 48x CD-RW Drive
$1100

Do I want a floppy drive for any reason? I haven't used a floppy in years and I have a 256MB memory key for dragging stuff around.

What else do I want?

Lose the fax modem, unless you make a lot of faxes from your computer. No cost savings there though. You do not need a floppy. Most things today will not fit on a floppy. Otherwise, looks good. Does Larry play games? If so, then I'd recommend more changes.

Yep - that's a necessity.

A 19" Flat Panel instead
They want an extra $300 or so and I'm too cheap.

I send a TON of faxes and Larry won't be using this computer - it will be my work machine. He can screw up his own computer.

So I'm a go? I can't get over how the price of computers has come down. When I bought my current beast 4 years ago, it was over $2k with 16X CD-RW, 1GHz P3 processor and 20GB HD.

Then that configuration will be great!

Direct marketing (Dell), plus processor speed increases always make the older chips more affordable, as does manufacturing surpluses, and you are buying a true "WORK"station. What I want still tops out at over $3K. I was trying to hook Larry up, that's why I asked...

The only thing I am noticing missing is an Office suite, unless you just didn't include it... MS Office 2003?

Sounds like a keeper though...:yay:

I tried to add the coupon and they said that's only for Home models. :ohwell: Thanks anyway, though!

Sounds like a great deal. I bought mine a couple years ago. 2.0 gig 80 meg hd etc. for around $1300 and got a $200 rebate. Have never had a problem with it. Only thing that I want is more memory. Can only fit 512 max.

Check the price for ordering as a small business (which I assume you did) and ordering as a home/personal customer. It probably is minor. Then apply the coupon and see. I use to check prices for ordering as a student to personal, and I almost always saved more using personal/home to any special discounts otherwise.

It's not that - they're different system set-ups. I tried to duplicate the system I wanted in the Home/Home Office section online and I couldn't get the goodies I got with the Small Business systems - the free flat panel upgrade, the 48x dual CD drives, and a few other things.

I still hook mine to a 13 inch black and white TV with a video adapter.
