Heard there will be a new Ferry to the Eastern Shore this year. Any details?

Where would said ferry be launching from? That would be awesome!

I hear it's just rumors, they are trying though. They are also trying to get a bridge from somewhere in Calvert to the eastern shore, probably won't happen for a very long time, probabaly not in our life time. Would be nice though.

Thank's sugar! Your story was a little more uplifting. I'm still waiting for a Ferry that will get me there in less than an hour. :huggy:

You're welcome. I'd love a ferry from the lower western shore to the eastern shore and not have to drive to Annap.

Solomon's to Crisfield would be awesome.

I'll cross the Bay Bridge before I take a darn ferry and add time to my travel.

I wonder how much a ride like that would cost a pop...

I think the cost would be the same for a mom or a pop...

And the cotton candy was delicious.. Biatch!!

It was mentioned a 38' powerboat was used to time the process-I hardly think a 38' powerboat would be the type of "ferry" most folks have in mind! IMHO-this type of travel is a luxury-not for the average working stiff.

The Bay Bridge, which carries about 25 million vehicles a year, would see some relief, with a reduction of 200 vehicles a day, the proposal estimates...sounds like the 2 ferry's are only going to make 1 trip each??

A little history-In 1919 the first regularly scheduled ferry service across the bay began. The Claiborne-Annapolis Ferry Company ran ferries between Annapolis and Claiborne, a community near St. Michaels. The ferry service was later replaced with two services, one running from Annapolis to Matapeake on Kent Island, and the other connecting Claiborne to Romancoke, also on Kent Island. The ferries were later taken over by the State Roads Commission, and the western terminus of the Annapolis-Matapeake ferry was moved to Sandy Point, shortening the trip.

I remember when Louis L. Goldstein, former Comptroller of the Treasury wanted a ferry from the Rock Hall to the western shore (he was a big land owner there as well as here)-had he lived long enough he probably would have seen his dream come true.

68,500 cars a day on average.. and they think 200 a day taking a ferry would make a difference.. how moronic..

I would think to have any noticeable impact it would have to reduce the amount of cars by at least 25%.. and then it would be back to the 68,000 a day in less then a decade.. So you need ferries in place to take 15,000 - 20,000 cars a day..

I would think they'd be better served to make the ferry service more in Southern MD.. I'm not going to take a ferry across in a place where there is a bridge that can get me across in a 10th (or better) of the time.

That was the really disappointing part.

:yeahthat:

If they were "smart" then all of these dunderheads wouldn't get paid to do their "studies".

Politics at their best.

:offtopic: How many babies are we going to pay for next week?

For starters-why not a ferry to carry folks and their cars? Like it use to be. (or, remember the scene from War of the Worlds)
I don't know of that many folks who would want to drive to a shuttle area, get on a boat, get shuttled to point B then at the end of the day get shuttled back to the boat and so on and so on....
