New McKay's...

Shopped where?

I primarily do my shopping at Aldi's. If they don't have something I need, I head over to Giant.

That used to be my M.O.

Then ALDI got as bad as WalMart - line ten people deep, and one register. And unlike WalMart - no self-checkout.
(Actually I've noticed that almost no store has an express lane anymore. That sure would help at ALDI when there's ONE person ahead of you - and they have two carts full.)

I go to ALDI pretty much when my list consists of things I KNOW are cheaper there - like produce and eggs and milk and cheese and cold cuts.
But I was there last night, and I ran into one of my frequent problems with them - BIG empty space where the thing I buy normally is. They're well known to me for being OUT of stuff, especially just before the truck comes, mid-week.

I usually do my shopping on Sunday, every 2-3 weeks or so. I have noticed that when the line is long, they call other cashiers. Also, if someone behind me only has a couple of items, I let them jump ahead.

Actually I have noticed Sunday night is the one time the store seems the most depleted of stock.

San Souci is still San Souci. I think spr1975 was answering a different question...I had a couple bad run-ins with the food at the salad bar when it was Shoppers, so the new McKay's is already plagued for me. Too bad the mega McKay's in GM closed down too....I used to wander the hardware store at lunch, and if I remembered a cooler, I had a 12-pack ready when I got home!!
Aldi is in "Patuxent Crossing". Rose...thanks..maybe you are one of the nice ones that let me jump ahead when I have just a handful of items at Aldi...I always do the same for the handfuls when I have a full cart. Some cross-training (stockers could run a register in an emergency) might help..I am always friendly with the staff..Aldi is not like the old school days when you knew the butcher and chatted about his best cuts he had this week...it is cheap. Harriett's Titties and Giant are $$$$$$$ as a general rule. I do like Giant's flower dept. I live in Calvert but we both work in St. Mary's..the flower dept in Calif is a little better than Lusby, and I keep on the good side of the Mrs. with a random bouquet here and there on the dining room table from the Giant..

It seems like ALDI has two types of shoppers. People that can carry their entire order in their hands and people with an overflowing cart.

Oops..thanks for the correction everyone. I let my brain think Lexington Exchange was the same as Patuxent Crossing. :lmao:
I have found I buy less junk I don't need if I don't have a quarter with me for the cart at Aldi, so I am usually the dude with the overflowing armload.
Rose, no, I do not know anyone on this forum, except I know who Stephen is since he works at Lowe's and I have seen him there with his name tag, but I have not said hello yet. I joined here a long time ago, but probably after all the meet & greets y'all did back in the day. :)
In addition to Stephen's comments, a Google Maps search of Patuxent Crossing also reveals an Apt building named that next door to JF Taylor in LP City.

I typically never have an overflowing cart - I suspect it's because of the shock of how much it's going to cost. Worst I've ever done is fill one of the little carts in other stores, top, bottom and the little basket on the bottom on the side by your feet. I MUCH prefer the smaller carts, partly because I don't have to REACH down into it to get the last item or two. When I'm unloading at ALDI, it's not unusual for me to tip the entire cart up just so I can reach the stuff in it.

I go first thing Friday mornings, sometimes Thurs mornings. I prefer to get thru before the weekend rush. I don't have many issues with items in stock when I go then. I find a majority of what I need on my list (I menu plan for the whole week and only shop for those items), and whatever I don't find I usually pick up at HT or Walmart on the way back home, depending what it is.

I have ZERO patience for Aldi's when it's packed. However I am super excited for it's new expansion.

Mckays doesn't seem to have much if a customer base probably ly because it serves no particular purpose. Shoppers who want to save go to Aldis and Wal-Mart. Those who want quality and variety go to HT and Giant. I would like to see a new business in its place. Perhaps a Lidl or Trader Joes.
