New Mexico Elk Hunting

Found out that I got a tag and I'll be going archery Elk hunting in September.

Where abouts? I LOVE New Mexico. Most of it anyway.

I originally put in for the GILA national forest and did not get drawn for that. I'm not going to be hunting Mt. Taylor which is about a hour west of Albuquerque. The elk are a little smaller at Taylor, but I'm not greedy.

Ride dirt bikes out off of Al Unser. Stunning country out that way, the little volcanos and odd rock formations.

My BIL used to get the occasional elk tag from some indian reservation lottery. He lined one of the large storage bins under his motor home with Styrofoam insulation and turned it into a giant ice chest to get the meat home.

If you get one, be prepared for two to three hundred pounds of meat

That is awesome!!!!! I don't know what elevation that area is but an elk hunt I took in Colorado was tough.
