New Old Bay-flavored vodka

On Monday, Philadelphia Distilling launched a seasoned vodka that is flavored with Old Bay-like spices and notes, or what they call "Chesapeake seasonings."

"We were certainly not trying to clone Old Bay exactly," says Philadelphia Distillers president Andrew Auwerda. "But we know a lot of crab houses make their own seafood seasoning, so that was sort of the model we were following."

The vodka, which is currently available in some bars in D.C. and will be available in Baltimore "in a matter of days," is described as a briny and spicy concoction, best suited in Bloody Marys, oyster shooters, or even Negronis.

And, in case you were worried about a Philadelphia company making an Old Bay-like drink, Auwerda, who is a University of Maryland graduate and Cecil County resident, assures us it's the real deal.

"Members of the Baltimore Bartender's Guild were part of the taste-testing last summer," he says. "And all of the spices are made in Maryland."

I think that would make a good Bloody Mary.

There are too many flavored vodkas out there (IMO)

I like a great mix and vodka...salt rimmed (or Old Bay rimmed) and a crisp celery stick.

What's the point? Unless you want straight flavored vodka.

I love love love Smirnoffs Light Mango Sorbet Vodka. I mix it with peach mango sparkling water over ice and before you know it... then :otter:

I havent tried the other two yet.

I like the whipped :wench: vodka and also cherry flavored. I haven't tried the sorbet flavors. Usually an entire bottle of flavored anything(vodka, rum) gets too sweet and just goes to waste.

My friend's been looking everywhere for this. Any idea when it might hit our area? I thought "ew" but it probably would be awesome in in a Bloody Mary or an oyster shooter :yum:

Dennis Point has a fantastic Bloody Mary. He uses jalapeno infused vodka. Delicious.

I've never heard of jalapeno vodka, does he make (infuse) it himself? Public House at the National Harbor makes pineapple vodka...it's so good, so so sooo good! STRAIGHT as a shot, just chilled :yum:

I'll have a drink again, one day

I am boycotting "light" alcohols. They charge you more, water the stuff down and drop the proof to 60. I keep my vodkas in the freezer and the light vodka will freeze. :cds:
