How does this place compare to Patruzzi's (We ate there a couple weeks ago and there food was extreeeeemly bland....and the MEATBALLS SHRUNK!! What the heck happened? Not like Patruzzi's was that great to begin with).

Petruzzi's = :boo: :boo:

Next time come up with me. This guy makes everything in house to order. Nothing pre-packaged. He even makes his own mozzarella. The only thing he didn't make was the shells for the canolli.

Man, I'm getting hungry again......

Try Depasquals (sp) in Baltimore. Much less of a drive :)

They do everything to order and from scratch including their mozz

I went to Bistro Avellino tonight, got a Stromboli. Very good. The owner, Mike, and I talked for a while, talked about some of the other places on Long Island he used to own that I went to.

He's a bit disappointed right now for the lack of business, but he said the other restaurants are very slow too. He is seriously considering closing for 2 months. He'll loose less in sales than he puts out in fuel and electric to keep the place running.

I'm sorry to hear that. What's up with the consistency with these places....

I haven't been disappointed with Chef's American Bistro (I have noticed that they change up the same dishes a bit) though I have read many people on here had bad experiences.

We tried the place too. Upon entering we weren't greeted so it was hard to tell if you seat yourself or wait to be seated (no sign). After a few moments of us looking bewildered a guy behind the counter acknowledged us and told us the guy at the register would help us. Well, guy at the register kept us waiting another minute or so as well. I think the cook is the one who actually came out and seated us.
So, we look over the menu and the watiress comes up and asks if we know what we want. No suggestions, no asking if we'd been there before, nothing.
Hubby asked for the portobello appetizer, a couple of beers and indicated we needed another minute or so to ponder the menu.
Ultimately we ordered a clam linguini dish and the stuffed shells with side salads. Salads came out and they were not impressive. Then, the meals come out. Granted, the meals were not bad in taste but the portion sizes (for the money) were less than desirable. I think I could've easily opened a can of clams myself, thrown them on a bed of linguini and poured some butter sauce over it for a fraction of the cost.
Hubby asked waitress if she forgot something ............she looks bewildered so he had to remind her that we ordered the portobello appetizer. "Oops, I forgot", she says. She did bring it out in a to-go box and removed it from our bill. We opted to go ahead and eat it before we departed. YUK! I wasn't impressed with it so I'm glad we didnt have to pay for it afterall.

Overall impression :boo:
I don't think we'll be back...................

Let me tell you Bistro Avelino has excellent Pizzia and Calzones even cold
the Calzones are good.Mike the owner is a very nice guy.I agree that the
employee's could be more welcoming to the customers they are not very
friendly.
