crate training
I've crate trained all my dogs as well. The puppy I'm fostering, Abby, is being crate trained now as well. She is in a separate room with the door shut while in the crate b/c my other dogs have the run of the house and it's not fair to her to see that while I'm gone. If she is in a crate where the other dogs have free run, that is not going to be good for the puppy. But I give her a treat when she goes in so she can't wait to get into the crate for her reward. When the door shuts, she's fine. She whimpered the first day or two or barked and I told her to be quiet, it was bed time or I was going to work. She does fine now. She runs in and out of her crate when she has the run of the house. She needs to know it's okay to come and go in there and that the door won't be closed each time. I agree with the can and some pennys. That works well on behaviors that you don't want the puppy doing. Or a squirt bottle with water works on bad behavior also. Usually one quick squirt will stop the bad behavior. Also a stuffed animal that the puppy could cuddle with like a litter mate may work as well. That worked great with my female min pin when she was a puppy. It was bigger than she was (lol).
