I think you may be forgetting A LOT of us grew up or were young adults in the 80s so we may find things from the 80s nostalgic not scary.
Although the episode IV of Star Wars came out in the 70s, episodes V and VI came out in the 80s. We just had III come out. Is that scary?
What scares me is ANY "nostalgia" that refers to an era that, in my recollection, only *recently* ended. Nostalgia to me refers possibly to as late a time as the late 60's and hippies and paisleys and "groovy" - it does NOT refer to MTV and big hair and Madonna. You can make re-makes of movies like "Lawrence of Arabia", "Antony & Cleopatra", "All About Eve" or "From Here to Eternity" (although God knows why) but you do NOT re-make "The Breakfast Club" or "Ferris Bueller" - mainly, because in my memory - they're *barely* lapsed into history.
It's like one of those "Where Are They Now" and they refer to someone you never realized has "left". It's like references to grunge bands that came out in the mid-90's and hearing someone call them "old".
To me, the 90's ended yesterday, and the 80's ended last week.
