So, this coming school year my daugther has been redistricted from Leonardtown Middle to Margaret Brent for 8th grade. Does anyone know when they are having their open house? Their website is useless and no one wants to answer the phone at the school. Also, when do they usually release the new bus routes?

:smack: :biteme: Actually, yes they are. They have people in the admin offices ALL SUMMER LONG, just at reduced hours (usually 8am to 1pm). In fact, I spoke with Leonardtown Middle School today...and Dynard Elementary.

Sorry, I couldn't find anything for you either. We don't usually get a lot of notice on that kind of stuff either. I would expect the new bus routes to come out in August. Holy crap, that's next week! :lmao: Time is flying!!

Meet the Teacher Day is usually the day before school starts. Open house is usually a couple weeks later. Bus schedules not until JUST before school starts. PM me your address and I will check with a friend of mine who works in the transportation department. He can probably find out for you.

Do not wait to start questioning the bus route. Look on the St. Mary's schools website and find the transportation number. Call them today with your concern and they will begin researching it to ensure your child is mapped to the correct route. If you wait until too close to the start of school, you will just be one of a bazillion waiting for them to get to you.

Ain't that the truth. That's why I started looking today. What's on the net is obviously last years route. I think I'll start by PMing Huntr and see what he can come up with. Every time I call transportation in the past, they've been less than helpful.

Don't be so quick to assume they won't be responsive. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experiences when I've had to call them. Besides, you have no choice. The schools are NOT responsible for the bus routes and cannot provide any direct info about them or fix the situation if there is actually a problem with your kid's route.

All huntr1 can do is give you info about the school. If you wait until open house then your bad.

I know the schools have nothing to do with the busses. I have had many dealings with the transportation office in the past and it's never given me a warm fuzzy. My daughter has been: not picked up; dropped off in the wrong place; and made to get off the bus on the side of the road and walk because the bus driver missed her turn and didn't feel like turning around, etc. Whenever I've called them, they've not been real helpful or concerned. I will call them, though and make sure I use my really nice voice.

Hey now, don't be disparaging my sourse until I meet with failure and report back here appropriately. My supersecretbusagent is on the case. We'll see what he reports back and THEN and only THEN can you claim my sourse cannot help. Sheesh.

How am I supposed to take my kid on a tour of the school before open house? :eyebrow: That's the POINT of open house. I have left a message with the school about whether or not they've received her records, etc. Huntr is finding out about the busses. Oh, and I just spoke to transportation - they don't want to tell me anything about the apparently super secret bus routes -- so hopefully huntr will have a good source.

Well, at least NOW you can say you tried...

What I was saying about open house was that in both times I had an issue, it was too late to get changes in the route put in place that close to the first day of school. This resulted in me having to drive mine to school for the first few days (and pick up).

Usually what Transportation does is prepares the bus routes. When they give the bus contractors their contracts (probably next week or the week after), the bus contractors look over the routes and actually drive them to make sure that the times and routes are workable. They submit any changes to the transportation department who usually makes those changes prior to putting them in the paper.

If you have an "in" with the bus contractor (Lacey or even Reds down at the bottom of the hill...), they may be able to tell you when the routes come in.

I did hear the driver of 514 moved, so she won't be driving their bus this year, if your kids had her. :ohwell:

Yeah, I had to call them repeatedly one year to get them to put her on the route. Luckily I had a friend's house I could drop her off at in the morning who was on the route. Now I have to go through it all over again :banghead: I'm also concerned about her records making it from Leonardtown to MB. I've heard rumors that they aren't always good about that. I guess I'll just keep calling MB until I get an answer! If her schedule shows up in the mail in a couple of weeks (whenever they come out) from MB, I guess that's a good sign! :yay:

I'm going to bribe the bus driver with chocolate. Do you think that will work?

Sorry it is taking so long to get back to you. I talked to the person who is working on the bus routes. He said that he has deadline of this Friday August 3rd to get the routes done so that it can get into the paper on August 10. I believe that if she checks the web site Tuesday or Wednesday it should be up by then.
Hope this helps.

 It does help! Thanks.

I talked to the school, they have her records and her schedule is done. Once I get the bus routes in the paper/website next week, I'll be good to go! :yay:
