New York's largest health provider announced Monday it has fired 1,400 employees who refused the COVID-19 vaccine before the state's mandate deadline.

The remaining 76,000 employees have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Northwell Health said in a statement obtained by the New York Times that no patient care has been disrupted, and it is currently hiring to fill the newly vacant positions.

It's gonna happen here in Maryland too and unfortunately quality healthcare will drop drastically now because of it.
I saw a post a while back that the Chesapeake Shores Nursing home in IIRC Montgomery county is bringing in foreign healthcare workers, giving them free unfurnished places to live and Hogan was asking for furniture donations.

That's less than 2 per cent. I'm more interested in percentages rather than raw numbers. I'd be curious how that compares to typical turnover on an annual basis.

But hey - lots of places are hiring. They can pull themselves up by their bootstraps and go do something else -- just like we all do when faced with such adversity. Maybe the money won't be as good. Oh well, as my grandfather used to say, "You pays your money, you makes your choice." I'm quite sure that's not his original apothegm, but it illustrates the point.

You're misunderstanding. I don't advocate in support of mandatory jabs. I myself am not jabbed, but will do so voluntarily soon enough as I travel internationally for work. My work has been sidelined for a bit thanks to Trump's tariffs, but ramping back up soon. If I weren't working, I'd be traveling voluntarily for leisure, so either way my jab will be voluntary. If them's the rules to get into a country, then them's the rules.

These folks are voluntarily losing their jobs. It's that simple. I haven't been privy to reading any legal complaints about this yet, but will be curious to see the legal angle when some are inevitably filed. Some of the federal ones might have success due to APA violations, but not likely any constitutional or labor law types of violations.

OR they can be a health care professional somewhere that isn't a dystopian nightmare. This may be a blessing in disguise for a lot of them. Get them the hell out of NYC, maybe go to Texas or Wyoming or Nebraska or Florida where your dollar goes further and your quality of life exponentially improves.

Another perfectly reasonable option. Don't like the terms of your current employer? Go find one which doesn't have the same terms of employment. Freedom of association - it's a wonderful thing!

The problem, of course, is that people typically can't just pack up and leave. They have to sell their house, find another job, if they have kids that adds a big layer.

Most people put their lives together with intention of keeping it that way. They buy a home. They make friends. They put down roots. Then along comes the government to bust that whole thing up, and while one can start over it's not just a walk in the park.

If your employer said, "Do this thing you really don't want to do or we'll fire you," how easy would it be for you to be unemployed overnight? Could you pack up and move at a moment's notice? Find a comparable job within a short timeframe? Or would you just do what they say?

So while I still think this could be a blessing in disguise for many of them who are in a position to leave that shithole, they are going through real trauma right now and I think a little compassion is in order.

So anyway, they kick all these people out of their jobs, refuse their unemployment claims.....now what? Just let those people starve in the streets? **** them, shoulda got the jab like they were told?

There are those who can do that, just shrug and drop everything, quit the job, and head to parts unknown hoping for the best. There are also those who would stress over everything, the house, the kids, the loss of income.... to the point of being an emotional mess. I'd fall into the latter category.
