Night Flights Scheduled Through Aug. 11

NAVAL AIR STATION PATUXENT RIVER, Md. – Communities surrounding the naval air station are advised that noise-generating nighttime flights are scheduled to take place two to three nights per week from 8 to 11 p.m. until Aug. 11.

Pilots at PAX will be training for realistic night-flight scenarios including Field Carrier Landing Practice.

As with all operations, NAS Patuxent River takes precautions to lessen the impact of testing activities on the community. For more information, call the noise hotline at 1-866-819-9028 or email PaxNoise@navy.mil.

Well, here it is 25 July and the last two nights I have aircraft flying loud over our residence 11pm and sometime later and close to 11:30pm. They are flying so low it is rattling our house and contents! UNACCEPTABLE!!!

Steny Hoyer will hear more complaints from our neighborhood since the base doesn't seem to ever listen. They keep up this midnight crap and we'll reach out to other Congressman (since I am from PA) and since Steny seems to be in the pockets of any base in MD. A little public embarrassment goes a long way! Keep it up base!

And you really think Steny is going to care? :killingme 90% of his constituients thought the stimulus package was a bad idea and he shouldn't sign it. He said he knew best and signed it anyway. Think he's going to care about a few jets over your house? :killingme I guess I'm used to it, never even noticed and the approach end of one of the runways goes right over my house.

That's the sound of freedom y'all. That said, rattling windows after dark does kinda make you utter a choice word or two sometimes.

Just wondering if 100% of the people supporting these flights are MILITARY?

Aren't those flight times a bit outside the core hours of 8:30-3?

Was just wondering, who forced you to live near a Naval Air Station? Ground was broken for the base in 1942 with aircraft flying from its runways within a year. If you lived here in 1942, then you have something to complain about. Otherwise, I would suggest you be grateful for the freedom the men and women of the base provide you each and every day.

And remember too.....if PAX didn't exist, the tri-county area; being Charles, Calvert and St. Mary's, just to mention three, would not be as they are now. There wouldn't be anything down here.

This sort of reminds me about people who live near airports

Anyway, I think they do a good job of minimizing this as much as possible.

ALL civilians, with a few exceptions are taking one furlough day a week.
However, those supporting flight test, including JSF, are working (and getting paid) overtime.

According to the PR on these flights, it's so pilots can retain their proficiency rating. If CNO wanted to make a statement, he would cancel those flights. These pilots are not going to be deployed tomorrow.

Let's go back to the post Viietnam (Jimmy Carter) model, ships stay at the pier, planes on the ground, vehicles parked. No live fire training, simulation is the only form of training.
All the real hardware is just allowed to rust in place.

Way to stick to the plan and show Congress how much the furlough is going to "hurt"

Been saying for a while now...

If I was running this thing like a business and I found out that I could get THE SAME amount of work done and only have to pay my staff 80% of what they were getting....

That would become a PERMANENT change. Its only good business sense!

How realistic can that be? Is the LZ going to be moving? Are they going to park other jets along side and put a big structure on the right?

The night flights probably mostly military. The F-35s that fly weekends very small percentage. I know on the telemetry end it took about 50 contractors per flight to support one flight. There usually are 4-5 on the schedule for Saturday. One or two are the same people supporting so think 150-200 people getting time and a half all day Saturday. Usually 10 hours. If one or all decide to cancel, those people still show up and wait....and wait, until they decide to cancel. In some cases half the day. That is a huge waste and even before all this I think it was too. So I'm sure the sequester isn't hurting these guys much at all.

I don't know how the furlough is applicable to everyone else's job but JSF and the aircraft that support JSF have different sequestration limitations. Our 8 hours can be taken anytime during the day and isn't limited to the core hours. Which is really kind of a moot point because we're authorized overtime and weekend work, just nothing on furlough fridays. And no, not 100% military. I don't know about government employees but contractors, depending on your contract and company, are working.
