No Charges Filed In Bridge Crash That Killed Three

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Maryland Transportation Authority Police determined that a small trailer that detached from an SUV caused a multicar crash that killed three people in May.

Investigators found no evidence that a safety pin was installed on the trailer hitch at the time of the crash. They also found safety chains on the trailer were too long for use with the towing vehicle.

The accident happened on the westbound span of the Bay Bridge.
The Anne Arundel County State's Attorney said charges would not be filed against the driver of the SUV because no applicable laws exist for securing that type of trailer.

I would think living with the events of that day for the rest of your life and knowing your actions took the lives of 3 people is punishment enough.

Since there is no law in place, that way of thinking is enough. However, common sense to secure a trailer to one's vehicle must have eluded this person. I honestly would have thought that all trailers were treated the same, in that, they must be properly secured while in use. Still a bummer for those families that cannot do anything about it and have lost loved ones.

would you feel that way if someone's negligence took the lives of someone in your family?
as i remember two were father and son, so thats 2 lost from the same act.

I would think there should have been some type of charge, maybe not manslauther or neg homocide, but something.....

There were no laws broken..thus the term "Accident"...So no charges can be files.

However.. as said..Now the Civil suits begin...and I would think there will be a lot of them.

If I were a family member,,,I would be very upset that no charges are filed..and this pereson is not held accountable for the deaths of 3 people...and as such gets sway with "murder".....

Perhaps the laws will be changed to cover stupid people that cannot tow a trailer properly.

I feel for the families and hope they can find a way to reconcile this horrible event.
