No phone service in Southern Maryland

We have been without phone service since 5 pm last Friday. I called Verizon on Saturday when I realized our phone line had snapped. I was told usual repairs are in 24 hours but could take until Wednesday, 9/13/06 to be repaired. I was told however it would probably not take that long to fix. I have not heard much about phone service being out in Southern Maryland. Are other folks out there in the same predicament? Does anyone find their span of time to make a repair too long? Thanks.

Where are you located? That seems like a long time.

When we had Verizon it was nothing for me to have to wait 2 weeks at a time for them to come out and fix their problems.

While people are complaining about SMECO taking more than 24 hours to get a whole region back up and running, it's not unusual for the phone company (and the cable company) to take a good week to get to one single service call.

I can't figure that out. Are the lineman that busy all the time? Because even when there's no major event and you just have an individual problem, it will take them several days to get to you.

I live in Prince Frederick. I am using the computer at work to communicate. Naturally the one at home won't work without the phone line. I am really sorry to hear Verizon takes so long. Maybe it is time to switch to all cell phones!!!!

I lost electric service but the phone service stayed on the whole time.

I too live in PF..Had a ton of static on my line one time, called it in and was scheduled for service in a week..They came, said they fixed it, but ended up crossing my line with a line that was going to a fax machine. Anyone that called my line got a fax machine answering. Called them back and they classified it as a "new" problem and scheduled service for a week later. I told them their 'new' problem was caused by their tech and I shouldn't have to wait a week. It was only after I told them that there was an elderly woman in the home alone most days that had to have phone access in case of emergencies that they agreed to send someone the next day. Verizon is not on the top of my hit parade.

It's all about manpower. Smeco has crews that work on problems which are almost always something major and once fixed many peoples problems are solved. Where as the cable and phone people have one person going out to diagnose, track, and repair a problem. And they may only have 4 people to service an entire area of problems. And each complaintant's problems are almost always a different fix.
