No see ums

Anyone know a good way to repel our local no seeums? They don't bother me much, but they seem to eat my mom alive and leave big red welts.

DEET doesn't seem that effective, I was thinking about one of those ThermaCELL things, anyone use the small patio sized one?

While on the subject of big red welts - is there any relieve for chiggers? I'm not talking about a bite or so; this is all over my rear end and around my waist, front and back.
I've heard a few things such as paint over them with nail polish, cover in vasoline, or even scrub with lacquer thinner.

I usually get relief from bugs with simple alcohol.

Skin so soft hands down for noseeums , deet for ticks and mosquitoes and picrardin for biting flies.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried nail polish before with varying degrees of success, but this would take a gallon - I'm covered from sea to shining sea and the itch is unbearable. Can't even try alcohol, I didn't have any at home before corona and there's none to be bought now. I'm not sure about lacquer thinner - that sounds like polish remover and some of this suckers are bleeding I've scratched so much. I'm not kidding you - I'm absolutely miserable.
Heavy dose of Benadryl and an oatmeal bath...oops, bath first so you do not drown in the tub if Benadryl makes you sleepy.

For bites try Calamine lotion, corticosteroid creams, and maybe Benadryl.
Live ones walking on your wood deck, maybe gasoline and a road flare? Works for spiders too :)

You need to alter your 3 am path or use bug repellent when you go to that place again.
