NO TV ! Giving up on TV Providers?

I am sure there are many like us who feel that close to $200 a month is too much to pay for TV/Phone/Internet each month. The service doesn't even include ANY movie channels, and only the mid-level channel line up is a part of this package.

The land line phone mainly gets used to call the cell phone to find it LOL. So ideally that service can go. I think we could get by with internet only but as a solo service, last time I checked they wanted $80 a month for that.

I hear people are using their computers to watch TV programs/movies etc. Is anyone doing this? If so please tell us how it's working out for you. Our 2 year agreement with Verizon/FIOS is up in 2 months and we may just drop the phone/TV part. We are happy with the service, we just think it's over-priced. We really don't watch TV much anyway.

We tried using a digital converter box a few years ago, but the picture freezes so much that trying to watch a show is frustrating if you miss part of each show to freeze-ups.

Saw this on the subject: No TV? 5 million U.S. households bid boob tube goodbye

I'm going to buy one box to try out Netflix and Hulu. I don't watch much TV anyway except for a few programs and movies.

We haven't had tv in a few years or a landline. We use Hulu and Netflix plus a number of channels have websites to watch their shows. You just wait until the following day.

Metrocast for Internet ($50 a month). No landline. VOIP using Google Talk (Free) other than the OBi V100 VOIP Adaptor along with Magic Jack (Just in case) wired thru house. Just 2 cell phones (Net10 $85 a month - Family Plan Unlimited) and use Amazon Streaming (Free Section for Prime Members (79 per year)). Did have netflix and may sign back up for them. Tried Hulu+ and not real happy with their selection. Have also used Boxee thru my computer to watch shows also from Crackle and other off the wall channels.

My practice in the past has been to set the DVR to record shows, and I was always trying to find time to sit down and watch them. I rarely ever watched a show when it initially aired. So seeing something the next day is no biggie for me at all. Sometimes I would find the DVR full and I'd have to remove some shows I had not even seen yet to ensure newer shows could record LOL.
