Throwing the deuces
Which is sometimes idiotic applied to the "ok" sign, ANOTHER sign that means something ELSE to many people.

In many nations - and in sign language - the ok sign means "*******" and thumbs up means "up yours".
Good to know. We have a deaf co-worker and many times I had wanted to say "********" and "up yours". Now I know how to. 👌👍

Just sneakin' around....
Wonder what SCUBA divers do now, seeing how they might offend someone with the "I'm OK" sign?

I think the ones that surprised me the most was the finger wiggle meaning "come here" was also considered vulgar and you can easily guess what it means.

But the weirdest ones were from a friend who went to India, who said you didn't wiggle your finger to mean "come here" but you waved your hand palm down in front of you. That makes NO sense. The other one is to make a loud kissing sound, lips pursed strongly with a head movement. I don't think they get how much that would PISS OFF Westerners.

Lastly, there's this thing about FEET. As in, you don't show the bottoms of your feet, so you don't sit with a leg crossed - the person your foot is facing, it's considered rude although I don't know why. You NEVER prop your feet on a desk. I think this is related to throwing shoes and hitting things with your shoe.

The feet thing is probably due to waking in streets that are basically an open sewer year-round.
Would you put your shoes, that just walked in up to an inch of fresh human waste sludge, on a table from which you are going to eat?
The demand to take off your shoes at the door is pretty universal in cultures that don’t have the sanitation perfected to the level of US and Western Europe. My village-born mother has an apoplectic fit if someone walks through her house with shoes on — she will not say anything to your face out of politeness, but might follow you with a mop and a bucket of bleach, until you get the point :)
