Here'goes.

If I were to be (attempting) to rent a condo for a week in ocean city...that happens to fall on senior week...yet I'm not a senior, I'm graduated a year now...and the only requirement is that the renter has had a fulltime job for 2 years...How diligently will they look into the fact at hand to see if you REALLY were for 2 years? I have been a fulltime employee like...I think it will be 22 months around when I'm renting...so will they turn me down you think?

ALSO..

Lady on the phone asked who the other occupants would be, I said one adult, and she wanted to know if that person was also employeed full time for two years...I wasn't sure...but my question there is...would they turn you down if only one person has been employeed the allotted time period? What would a couple do if one spouse was stay-at-home? Sounds like :bs: to me....

Not BS. They want to make sure that they can recover the cost of all the damage that *may* occur during a time like Senior Week.

Wouldn't you?

Oh yes. I understand that, but that is their yearround requirements. What if someone wanted to go on a vacation with their family and the spouse was a SAHM for example? Would the family be turned down because only one person was a full-time employee? Why not just ask for a higher amount security deposit?

The operators aren't dummies. Whomever you were talking with probably immediately recognized the fact that you were young. I doubt seriously that if I called to book the room that I would have to provide anything other than my credit card #. Never had to with any hotel I've dealt with in the past 20 years.

How much are you willing to stretch the truth? Does it bother you to lie?

 As long as I get this place, I don't mind telling them SO and I were secret agents for 5 years and that is why it doesn't show up on any employment history :coffee:

Pookieboo!!!
I have never had a problem there. I was renting condos in OC the same time when I was 24-26. It usually falls the same week as the OC Carshow as well. I usually go through Coldwell Banker.

Growing up in Ocean City, this question made me laugh a little bit. To you, this may seem a bit overboard but in all actuality, its what some people HAVE to do in order to make a living. They are covering their bases, making sure that worst case scenerio they are covered if something happens. Sounds like you got off pretty easy with that rental, I know some who require a form of temporary renters insurance.

I'm sure if you explain that's it's just shy of 2 years, or get your employer/supervisor to write a letter stating the likeliness of continuing employment then you'll be fine.

He's only been out of school for a year or two. He's probably still friends with the kids that are going. Shoot, if I was 19 again I'd go. :alkies:

I went on a cruise for my senior week so that I could drink. In international waters the drinking age is 18 so for price that it cost to get a condo in OC we got to go to Mexico and the and get drunk off of Dos Equis without worrying about getting in trouble with the law.

you've never been to OC for senior week then...
you won't get in trouble with the law unless you do something dangerous to others or are carrying alcohol containers in public and are underage  they follow a fairly strict "if I don't see it, it didn't happen" policy

Would I mind going on a cruise? No, could be fun...but I enjoy OC and it is fairly close..heck, if I had people who wanted to go i'd be going to senior week too

12 to 10 years ago cops on rt. 50 would stop random car going to OC during Senior week for what they called "Safety" checks, but in reality they were looking for booze. I had a friend that had to sit on the side of the road the dump out 6 cases of beer! Believe it or not thats what the majority of the kids going to OC want to do is drink and party and its kind of hard to get boozes when your 17-18 and cops are keeping a close eye on you.

I'm all about having fun and if he has fun in OC then so be it, but when my senior week came up I wanted to be able to sit at a bar and drink and not worry about a cop tapping on my shoulder. Go luck finding the condo!

This thread got me thinkin...and I decided to try to book a condo. GF and I are now going up to OC for "senior week" :roflmao:
I guess it is all in who you try to book with cuz this lady was ok with us being younger...even knocked OFF the security deposit cuz GF sounded nice on the phone and made an effort :lmao:

hmm, now we shall find out about MY booze situation. As far as I know nobody had an issue during my senior week but i also didn't bring the booze so i don't know. How in-depth could a "safety check" be though? Wouldn't they need a reason to search your car in-depth?? not just a scan over the inside?

And duff...I even looked into your cruise idea...did mommy and daddy pay for it?? I have no idea how you paid for a cruise as a graduating senior as it has been a year since mine and I even have a good job and I wouldn't even waste that money on a week cruise...I'd rather stay on land and get a nice hotel for what i'd be paying for a cramped cabin

To each his own though :yay:

Most of it is a stop to make sure everyone is wearing a seatbelt, and from there they can ask questions but can't search your car unless they have cause to. My friend had his beer hidden under a blanket and the cop was able to see just a corner of the box to know that it was beer and then they had a cause to search his car. Now this happened years ago, I don't think they do it much anymore but you never know.

When I went on my curise it was 11 years ago and fuel was a lot cheaper then. My 4 day 5 night curise cost me $450.00, that was a round trip airfare, food, and a room. Drinks you had to pay for. I saved up the summer before to pay for it so no, mommy and daddy did not pay for it. Hell they wanted me to go to OC because they did not want me going to Mexico. I think total the trip cost me $800-900 that was the airfare, food, drinks, booze cruise, etc. Now that is most likely alot more then going to OC for the week, but man I had a blast!

ha, thats the important thing is to have a good time no matter where you go. Sounds about what you would have paid for OC ...I don't know how much the prices have inflated in 10 years though. I wish I could still get your trip for that price...I almost got a condo for just that price :lmao:

I usually splurge on vacations like this so I won't even be bringing beer probably...I think I'll just stick to meticulously hidden bottles (wine for a romance night or two and hard stuff for any partying I might do...gotta pregame of course )

Is just the transportation sector that causes increase. Back then fuel was about 1.25 to 1.50 a gallon, so boats and planes can run at a much lower cost. Now that fuel is 3.25 to 3.75 the price to run those boats and planes go up quite a bit. I usually don't go though a travel agent but during that trip we did and she found us the cheapest trip she could find. The cruise line we went on was Norwegian, which was pretty nice. So $450 is how much a condo cost these day in OC huh? Man I hate to see what a senior has to pay to stay at a hotel!

lol...no...I don't know if $450 could get you a condo anywhere in OC...

I paid $750 total after taxes and crap. That is also for ocean front though.... Most 2bd/2bths are over 1k for a week  Definitely not cheap but I'm going to splurge and get an enjoyable vacation as long as its within my means... You only live once :yay:
