Odd Lights in the Sky

I live about a mile from NESEA down in Saint Inigoes. I was sitting outside looking at the stars. To the right of me which was probably south west, I saw what looked like a "string" of lights in a row, counted them, there were at least twenty two way up in the sky in a perfectly straight line. They didn't get brighter but they were moving slowly like further down in the sky and then they disappeared or faded out until there were just two and then they were gone.

It was one of the oddest things I've seen in the sky in a long time and because I'm near a base I thought maybe something military connected. I was on the phone with someone and he said I sounded upset so not my imagination. Couldn't get a picture of it - just wouldn't appear on the screen.

Any idea what it could have been?

Starlink satellites. Google it.

Nah, it was Starlink. Pretty distinctive. Each of the launches carries about 20 of the sats. They stay in a train formation at "low altitude" during bootup and system checkout. Then they slowly raise themselves in a train still slowly separating out to go to their assigned orbits.

Yup that was exactly what it looked like. Freaked me out. In retrospect that's pretty interesting though now that I know what it was.

I watched Starlink fly across the sky a few years ago. The 6 o'clock news announced that it would be visable at 833pm (or some such odd number) in the north eastern sky.

It was so cool, was about 60 of them, in a straight line, went seemingly right over our house.

Wish I had know it would be visable last night, I'd love to see it again.

I agree with the others, that was probably starlink. That said, if it were anything else it was probably some engineer with their toy drones.

Most drone light shows are done by amateurs, and if you are not aware there is a large hobbyist community here for drones. If you see random lights in the sky (especially if they are in "formations") it's probably one of these guys.

I did this link using St Marys City lat/long.

Thanks. I've used that site, they only go 5 days out. By next week, I will have forgotten we even talked about it. SOMEONE in my world will have an emergency, and that's what I will be focused on.

What time did it occur? The assumption is Starlink. How about if it wasn't? Then what? Those that think inside of the box stay in the box. Those that think outside of the box see what the box is made of and what else can be around them.

Between 8 - 9 PM. If it's space creatures I pretty much think I'd rather stay in the box.

While that does have some merit, its also true that it it has the right number of lights (each launch is about 22 sats), and appears in the sky where they are scheduled to appear, Occams Razor suggests that it is indeed Starlinks. Supposed to be visible tonight if its clear. But might be dim, think I'll head down by the boat ramp at the college to see...

Starlink-104 (G7-2), DIM (2.4) for 5 mins
Look from NORTHWEST to EAST (details)
Elevation (from horizon): start: 10°, max: 44°, end: 33°

Did you see anything? There's a heck of a lot of sailboats anchored off the college tonight.
