Pete, thanks for the opinion!

We have a conundrum here, I LOVE chinese food, and BG doesn't like it at all.. Will have to drag her to Leanardtown to try Oga.. I like China Harbor, as it is the best I've had in the area (besides Bon Buffet :sarcasm:) so far (not the best I've ever had) so if it's better then China Harbor I'm there
They have sushi, she'll be fine:yay:

Tried it tonight for the first time. Way above the standard around here and definitely better than China Harbor. Not only is the food great, but the prices aren't bad. $40 for a family of four including 3 entrees and a maki sampler is cheap.

General Tso's - The real stuff... crunchy coating and not soaked in some overpowering sauce. The sauce was light and slightly sweet. You could actually taste the meat!

Pork in Garlic Sauce - a garlic sauce with flavor (for once), tender pork slices, and very fresh, crisp vegetables.

Singapore Noodles - This was a new one on us. Rice noodles with several types of meat and vegetable. It is actually slightly spicy. It catches up on you. Good stuff, but not for kids that don't like things too spicy. Luckily, the little girl loved the other stuff, so she didn't depend on her staple noodle dish.

Spicy Tuna Maki - these are up there in one of the best forms of the spicy tuna roll I have had. It was slightly crispy in the center and it wasn't just some hot sauce/tuna mix. A different flavor for these and not overpoweringly spicy where you can't enjoy the flavor of the fish and roll.

Fresh Water Eel Roll - Very good. Again, not overpowered with a sauce to where you can't enjoy the roll. Fresh flavor and didn't have that "dirty" taste a lot of the fresh water eel has in lower quality sushi places.

:yay:

We went again this afternoon. (Just the hubby and I this time) We had the dumplings (which are now my favorite thing on earth), hot and sour soup (now another favorite of mine), california roll and vegetable tempura:yum::yum: The tempura came with Miso and salad with ginger dressing. It was my first time trying Miso so I can't really compare it but the ginger dressing on the salad was the best!

I can't wait to go back again and try some more:biggrin:

We did OGA(wd I think I'm going to throw up) this afternoon for lunch. Some of the food wasn't bad, didn't get a chance to try the hot and sour soup, but for Chinese food, China Harbor sadly is still number one in the area..

Now for the bad.. the sushi SUCKED!! We had Salmon, and Tuna. The Tuna was ok at best, small portions, not very good looking, it looked old, color was faded, the salmon tasted rotten.. like it had been lefton the counter for the last two days.. we didn't eat 2.5 pieces of the salmon out of the four we bought. Then I decided to be brave/ stupid.. tried one of the sushi rolls off of the buffet.. You ever try to swallow while trying not to throw up?? It was the nastiest thing I've ever eaten.

itstitsbob give it :boo: :boo: We won't ever be going back.

Im guessing there is a big difference between ordering off the menu/night and the lunch buffet $5.95 stuff. At night the sushi was great when we had it. So was the food. The lunch buffet was run of the mill lunch buffet, though, when we went for that. It was better than the standard buffet, but it was still just a lunch buffet. I didn't try ordering the sushi when I went for lunch that day.

The sushi should be the same day or night, it's made fresh behind the sushi counter (other then the rolls on the buffet), and I'm telling you the salmon was rotten.

Hands down the best sushi is at Okada.. serving size, freshness, taste.. and the people there are overly friendly! Second is Woodburns... about the same as Asahi, but priced much cheaper.

Where is Okada?

I ate at Oga's - didn't have sushi, but had a fantastic meal (and checked out other folks dinners - which looked very yummy). I plan on going back. It was a very enjoyable experience with plenty of food and attentive service, and of course good company.

I've been to Oga's a few times for lunch (it's really close to my work) and I've never had a problem with the food or Sushi. It's a great place and I'd love to come for a super secret lunch... since there are none...

Hey Bob, I wonder... that was right after the holiday. I am wondering if they didn't have fresh food service since before Christmas. It doesn't make it right, but it does make you wonder. It could have been a couple day old fish.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Obviously, a lot of people like that place and the food, so our horrible experience must be an anomaly or something. Admittedly, I hate Chinese food, but I was really excited to try their sushi. Yuck. Perhaps it was bad timing on our part to go when we did.

Again, I have to say again that the sushi at Okada is some of the most delicious that I've ever had. Very fresh, tasty, has great presentation, and ample portions of fish and shrimp, all for a reasonable price. :yum:

Tuna sushi is the BOMB... it's like buttah.. Dark Red, aromaless.. tasty.. Salmon is the same, but not as 'pretty'.

I've never had bad tuna, but have had some borderline and bad salmon. I think that has to do with the color. Tuna is VERY red and it seems to fade as it ages, and if it's bad I'm sure it doesn't look appetizing, but salmon isn't that colorful, and (apparently) can go bad without visibly looking bad.

We went to Okada last week and went wild. I think total we had something like 18 peices of sushi (not to include the california roll), Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp and Red Clam, and the chef gave us 4 extra pieces to make the presentation of the plate better. :yay: It was all unbelievalby good!
