I have long hated the emphasis that schools at all levels place on sports entertainment.

For many - sports IS going to be the primary vehicle that gets them to higher education. And I don't mean dimwits getting scholarships and never seeing class. A friend of mine had his daughter make it through college on - believe it or not - a water polo scholarship.

And secondly, COLLEGE sports, especially football and basketball, are such huge money-makers - they fund all of the other programs and scholarships. Yep - that water polo scholarship got a future petroleum engineer through school - because the college football team makes money.

I agree with you on PRINCIPLE - the Ivy League doesn't HAVE sports scholarships - but as a practical issue, I agree with them.
