I'm 100% sure Rachel Maddow didn't know about his departure. Word is most people inside MSNBC didn't know.

Right after Keith signed off, they were still promoting Countdown weeknights 8pm on their "Lean Forward" ads. It was very last minute, and Rachel wasn't at NBC News World Headquarters when it went down.

She's said 1,000 times she owes her career to Keith. Fact is, Keith was on his way out... everyone knew he had more than outlasted his welcome.

MSNBC is rebranding, and the antics of Keith Olbermann and David Shuster are no longer welcome there.
