You can try, and I may even answer. But I am not an expert, I just do it for fun, once in a while.

... I'd say it's so easy even a caveman can do it, but I'm sure someone would come along and twist it, implying I was calling Dems a caveman.

:ohwell: No, I'm not a caveman

My Dazzle equipment came with the software needed to do that kind of editing. I haven't got to try it yet, been a little too busy with the boy having his appendix out, to mess with it. I'm glad I could help you out! :howdy:

Get this unit or one like it:

$120 gets you a combo VHS/DVD recorder.

Put VHS tape in one side, blank DVD in the other, press PLAY, press REC, wait, take them out, you're done.

I know how to load video into the computer using composite, DV over firewire, etc, and author and burn fancy DVDs using Premiere, Encore etc, and even I realize a box like this one is SO worth it to reduce all that hassle if you just want to move old tapes to new DVDs.

I have this same unit at home (except I bought it new for more money unfortunately) and it works great.

For those of you who ARE computer whizzes, this box is still great because it quickly converts sources (VHS tapes, composite input, cable TV) to MPEG2 with better speed and quality than my old PC can manage--real-time compared to letting my old PC run all night converting video to MPEG2. It even has a DV input. Then if you want, you can take the disc, put it in the PC, and reauthor the MPEG2 into a nicer DVD without having to re-encode all the video.

Ok... this is more my speed. No, I am not tech challenged. My last job was as an Info Tech/Ass't Net Admin. I'm getting of the age where the fewer steps it takes to do something the better it is. Too many facts start confusing me.

Don't get old, it ain't pretty. :ohwell:

VHS to DVD

I have two suggestions - both pretty easy. I am a local videographer and one of the services I provide is to transfer from VHS to DVD. That's the way to go if you only have a couple of tapes. If you have a bunch, the other alternative is to get either a Sony DVD recorder - called DV Direct (available at Best Buy) that you hook the camcorder to and copy directly to DVD. Or buy a contraption that has a slot for VHS tapes and a slot for DVD and you can record from the VHS tape to the DVD directly. I have both and use both frequently. I like the DV Direct, because I can hook it to anything - even a television - to record my favorite shows straight to DVD. It works great. I've even taken it on film shoots where I hooked it directly to my camcorder and as I filmed, the video went straight to a DVD.
