Getting ready to help a neighbor work on his old Triumph Bonne . Used to own Bonne's and old BSA' s. Famiiar with Amyl carbs and Lucas electrical systems . Bike has been garage kept body and paint look good. Bike hasn't been started in ,over in 16 years. Looking for suggestions on where to start. Bike is a real classic, not sure on how to replace basic stock parts anymore. Got rid of my last BSA due to part unavailabilty. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated. Please HD owners don't dis' because its an old Brit bike.

VEry first?? Drop the oil pan and clean it out. It'll probably look like tar in there and you don't want to suck that gunk up into the engine when you try to start it.

Take the plugs out and put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders and hand turn it a few times. The rings are probably frozen to the pistons.

:yeahthat:

Drain the gas tank, clean it out, fill with new gas.
Remove, clean and re-assemble the carb w/ new gaskets.
Inspect all wiring for rodent damage/cracking due to age.
If it takes grease, grease it.
If it takes oil, oil it.
