I have cients moving to Canada who are unable to take their 15 year old kitty. He's a very sweet, declawed, long-haired tabby named Garfield. I'd take him mysef, but don't have room in my apt. for another friend. I've put them in touch with the well pet clinic, but thought I'd give it a shot on here for them as well!

Adopt me please !
Have them be careful where they let the cat go - even if it's to a rescue. Some rescues will accept a cat but then drop it off at the shelter if they feel the cat isn't easily adoptable (due to age, color, etc). So the cat going to a rescue does not insure the cat will be adopted.

I'm partial to the older ones, but don't have any space for another until Jerry gets placed. How long before the cat has to go? I may be able to work out a foster situation until the cat can be placed.

I wanna be a SMIB
How sad. I am always upset when someone wants to find a home for an older pet. To me, its kinda like moving grandma out of the only home that she ever knew. Chances are she wont live long, neither will the pet. Too big of a deal for older pets. Like someone else said, dont they have cats in canada.

I have had a few great adoptions of older, esp. declawed cats to seniors...I had a super placement with a senior at Ashbury Retirement Community in Solomons.
Might be a long shot, but you might want to advertise him there..photos,etc, point out he is declawed....
Not sure what other "senior" communities there are in the other counties...
Good Luck!

Sucks to give away a pet, doesn't it.

catt yes it does but i had 0 choice in the matter cause she was destroying the kitchen cabinets etc and i don't have the money to replace the things she destroyed when i move out when the next person who comes in takes over when the time comes. I had no choice catt lets please not rub it in anymore. I did everything I could to keep her but it just didn't work out.

Great advice! I can't think that after 15 years they made this choice lightly. Hope they check it out!

One more thought..we loaned out a cat to Hospice..a patient of theirs ahd lost her cat, lived alone and wanted one...so we "loaned" her an older, declawed cat.
We convinced the lady that the kitty needed a foster mom and a lot of love...she agreed to "work" with the cat...and soon were best of buddies!
Patient died a year later and kitty came back only to get adopted by one of the caretakers!!

Being old and declawed makes kitties perfect for older folks!..
Anyway, just a thought.
