Does that mean that hollywood sees the current white house resident as a god?

What Hollywood is trying to do is play to the unity message. Morgan's line in the ads I've seen "America comes together when we're tested". Message; "Get behind The Obama! Our Obama! We're all American's!! We are in this together!"

Will we ever get back to a time where we can just enjoy something without having to bring political BS into it?

Any medium is, or has, the potential to be propaganda. Posters, radio, movies, song, speech. I've been sensitive to it for most of my life I guess because I was always a war buff and Hitler intrigued me and terrified me so much and his propaganda machine was so studied.

And then, it happened; He wasn't, obviously, the only one using propaganda. This is how I grew to despise Woodrow Wilson. To me, if you have to use propaganda, you are LYING to some extent, pushing something that people, reasonably, would not want or agree to. War sure as hell isn't for the peasants who tend to fight, and die, in them.

That's the intellectual challenge; what is and what is not propaganda. Or, more accurately, what is harmless, good, clean fun.

For instance, Days of Thunder, Tom Cruise, is not political, even a little bit but, it is propaganda; a NASCAR promo. That, to me, is harmless. It is to no ones loss to push NASCAR that way.

This new movie, to me, looks like a 'Get behind Obama!" piece. The new Lincoln, sounds very much like a propaganda piece, selling Lincoln as something he absolutely was NOT; an abolitionist. That is BAD propaganda and arguing it is for a good cause, a good message is to then argue lying is good and it's a short step to arguing Hitler's was fine and, of course, it would have been. had he won.

THAT is the terror of propaganda, why ALL lies are bad.

Stone's JFK is a harmful lie. Overt and blatant.

The 'green' movement is so absurd we now have 'green' oil companies and 'green' coal because, well, propaganda works.

Bush used it to sell us on Iraq. Obama uses it to try and get us to trust him when he claims the sun rises in the East.

I guess so.....I shouldn't expect people to be able to think for themselves......I liked Days of Thunder, but still hate nascar. I didn't run out and get a Drive fast go left hat and start chewing....Although damnit if Top Gun and Navy Seals didn't get me.......Tom Cruise and Charlie Sheen are the devil.....

I guess I long for the days of my youth when Bruce and Ben went to that asteroid or Will and Jeff took the Alien shuttle back to the mother ship to save us and that's all it was....not, "That damn Obama is trying to say x, or GW was trying to get us to believe y."

I think the quality and originality of movies has seena sharp decline in the past few years.

Sure Transformers, or the bazillion comic book movies have bad ass special effects, but where's the originality?

Seems like most of the movies coming out are either re-makes, or a comic book. With the exception of a few.

I'd take 50 Christopher Nolan/Christan Bale Dark Knight Sequels and love it.

Watched the movie tonight. (Free show on base). It was better than I thought it would be. Lots of action. Next week is a free showing of GI joe.

Actually, there were surprisingly few political statements in it. There was no mention what political affiliation any of the characters had and there were no obvious leanings for any of them. The few things I noticed were:
The General was an idiot (refused to abort the SEAL attack after finding out what was in store for them).
The SecDef was wearing a cross.
There was a statement about the corporatism of politics, but it was from the bad guy/traitor, so I'm not sure which way (if any) they meant it.

I had more issues with the technical problems...but I'm ok with them too.

OK,

we watched this the other night.

Fantastic opening scene.

Great stuff with the attack and take down of the WH though it was absurd that the entire sophisticated plan, replete with the bad guys knowing super secret things and having acquired super secret stuff, the entire thing rested on assuming the potus would break protocol and defy his security detail by allowing the Koran delegation down in the PEOC with him.

Given the set up that 'Sparkplug' knew so much about security in the WH and how to get around, undetected, annoying his security guys for fun, I thought he, the president's son, would be a more integral part of the movie.

I was hoping that, for once, the SEAL's wouldn't all be wiped out and actually get to help. For once. There seems to be this unwritten code, maybe it is written, that the SEAL's always get wiped out and early at that.

Great action.

For the ending, it would seem that our president owed our hero a bit more than a quip about insurance. He should have said "Mike, I couldn't have you head my detail anymore not because I blame you for her death, in any way. But, because you did everything you could and every day, seeing you would make me see her and that moment and I couldn't have that and do my job."

That woulda tied that up.

Plus, the General as Uber Douche was silly and pointless.

And, given our hero supposedly told Morgan to #### off, it would have been nice to have them bury the hatchet in some sort of "Hey, chief, you know I will tell you what I think, sir."

Anyway, enjoyed it.

Call it a 7.5 or so. :buddies:

Yeah, like attacking the White House, or the Capital would get the President..

That's the LAST place to be looking for our current CIC..

MAYBE attack Martha's Vineyard..

I could see the White House going up in smoke and flames.. People going, OH MY GOD, THE PRESIDENT...

Only for him to pop his head up in Hawaii, or the Virgin Islands on a golf course saying.. "Did I miss something!?"

I thought it was a pretty intense movie. The opening scenes gave the horrible feeling of September 11 all over again, but other than that, :yay:

That, and I think the lead character is hot as fried hell. :coffee:

INAFJ
How did you like them Bell helos dressed up like Apaches. They waited till the Seals got blown to hell then Says pull em back. After that they acted like that was all the Helos and teams they had.
Just unbelievable, but a lot of action. I like how Secret Service run into a hail of auto weapon fire with handguns. stupid.
