OMG Gas Water Heater Prices

Sneakers

Just sneakin' around....
I went with the hybrid with the consideration of power outages. After one hurricane when I was out for over a week and trying to find showers where I could, I made the choice for hybrid. In heat-pump-only mode, it only draws 600 watts, easily powered from my generator. It does take longer to heat when using that mode vs the coils (4800 watts), but that's not an issue, no high demand.

Looked at gas on-demand, but the hybrid was a one-for-one replacement of the old heater with no changes to anything. No increase in propane tank size, gas lines, no holes and ducting for vents...

So you're asking an Engineer, if he did his due diligence on this project.
Did you see his response, sounds like he turned the decision over to a 3rd party. And by making your recommendation about gas tankless you are also implying he didn't do his due diligence (otherwise you would expect he would already be aware of this option).

Also, given your statement I must assume it is your contention that Engineers know everything and never overlook anything on their projects? Because I have some bad news for you if so.

Since its a "Club" lets assume it has a board of directors, or at least trustee's decisions, he has to abide by.

Guess you didn't read my "Edit" I responded before I had read the rest of the thread.

I know this, without Engineer's, Civilization would barely exist...
I know this, any question I have ever asked an Engineer, has been answered to me in a language that I can understand.
Often by showing me the difference between why the way I'm doing it fails, and the correct way it has to be done.

I'm quite certain that if I called Gilligan and had any questions that fall under his wings of education.
He would offer me one of those sh!tty ice cold beaner beers, and break it down for me.

And that's from a High School Graduate...

The biggest plus's with going "Quality" tank-less, is what it doesn't cost sitting idle.
Along with if, four folks just show up, theres endless 120* or hotter water.
